Disney creates a huge amount of entertainment, making it hard to avoid. But if you use YouTube TV, you currently can’t access any Disney content. This is because Disney and YouTube TV are in a disagreement that has removed all Disney shows and movies from the platform for several weeks. It’s unclear when they’ll resolve the issue, and Disney appears prepared to continue negotiating.
Disney recently announced its financial results for the last three months of 2025, and while the company performed well overall, many are curious about its discussions with YouTube. In an interview with CNBC (reported by Deadline), Disney’s Chief Financial Officer, Hugh Johnston, stated that talks are still happening, but he doesn’t foresee any major issues, believing Disney is in a strong position during the negotiations. Johnston went on to say…
At its core, this impacts your viewers, and right now they’re missing out on important content. Sports, especially during football season, are incredibly popular. That gives us some negotiating power, as fans can easily find these games elsewhere if they aren’t available on YouTube.
When Johnston suggested customers could turn to other options, he was pointing to Disney’s own streaming services, like ESPN. Recent data indicates that competing platforms to YouTube TV have been gaining users since this dispute started. Disney operates three of these – Fubo, Hulu + Live TV (which is currently offering new subscriber discounts), and the ESPN app, which was recently released as a separate service.
During Disney’s fourth-quarter 2025 earnings call, Bob Iger addressed the discussions with YouTube TV. He specifically mentioned that Disney’s proposed deal with YouTube TV is more comprehensive than those offered to other platforms. Iger then continued…
The offer we’ve made is comparable to deals we’ve reached with larger distributors. We’re working hard to finalize this agreement, and we hope to do so quickly enough to allow consumers to access our content through their platform.
YouTube TV subscribers are likely frustrated by how long it’s taking to resolve the Disney content issue. While Disney is losing money due to being unavailable on the platform, YouTube TV is also feeling the impact and is offering customers refunds to compensate for the missing channels.
Disney believes its offer might be enough to reach an agreement with YouTube, filling the gap left by YouTube’s potential loss. Though an announcement is possible soon, nothing is confirmed at this time.
