The actor known for playing Batman is taking on a new comic book project, starring in a film directed by the Russo brothers based on the story Ordained.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Colin Farrell will play Father Roy Craig, a priest who gives last rites to a mob boss. Surprisingly, the boss survives and confesses his crimes to the priest. This quickly puts Father Roy in danger, as hitmen, corrupt police, and other gangsters are sent after him by the mob boss, who wants to keep his secrets hidden. However, Father Roy has a hidden, violent past that makes him more formidable than anyone realizes – though he still adheres to the commandment against killing. The script for the film, titled Ordained, will be written by Derek Kolstad, known for his work on John Wick.
The comic book series Ordained is being published by Bad Idea and distributed by ABGO, the production company run by the Russo brothers. ABGO is known for supporting popular titles like The Electric State, Everything, Everywhere, All At Once, and The Gray Man. The Russos also consider their work on Marvel films, including the Avengers sequels and Captain America movies, to be ABGO productions. Ordained is one of several projects coming from the Russos, and it’s written by Robert Venditti. The story centers around Father Royston Craig, who tries to become a priest later in life but gets entangled with the world of organized crime. The first issue of Ordained will be released on December 10, 2025.
The Russo Brothers And Colin Farrell Have More Comic Book Movies To Work On Before Ordained
As a huge movie fan, I’m keeping track of what everyone’s up to before the new comic book adaptation, Ordained, even comes out! It seems both the Russo brothers and Colin Farrell have some superhero stuff still in the works. The Russos are directing the next two Avengers films – Doomsday and Secret Wars – which is exciting! And Colin Farrell is reprising his role as The Penguin in the world of The Batman. The Russos have been central to Marvel for years, and Farrell’s Penguin got so popular it spawned its own series, bridging the gap between the first Batman movie and the upcoming Part II. While The Penguin series hasn’t been officially renewed for a second season yet, everyone who’s seen it – critics and fans alike – seems to really love it.
So, I was listening to an interview with Colin Farrell, and he brought up a project he’s still really hoping gets made – Sgt. Rock. Apparently, the script was amazing, and he was all set to do it with Luca Guadagnino. They had a few conversations, but the project just stalled out. It’s a shame because it was canceled back in April 2025, and as far as anyone knows, it’s just been on hold ever since, with a vague hope of maybe getting back on track in 2026. He really thinks it should be made, and honestly, after hearing him talk about it, I kind of agree!
The Ordained movie does not have a release date.
