Grey’s Anatomy and Station 19 Stars Reunite For RJ Decker

Jaina Lee Ortiz, known for her role in Station 19, is reuniting with Scott Speedman – her former Grey’s Anatomy colleague – for a new ABC series called RJ Decker. Speedman will lead the show, and Ortiz will be a main cast member.

I’m really excited about RJ Decker! It’s a new crime drama based on Carl Hiaasen’s novel Double Whammy, which I loved. The show follows a guy who used to be a photographer and spent time in prison, and now he’s trying to make a fresh start as a private eye. It’s set in South Florida, and from what I’ve heard, the cases he takes on are totally wild. Plus, he’s working with a really interesting group – his ex-girlfriend who’s still a journalist, her wife who’s a police detective, and this woman from his past who’s a bit of a wildcard. I can’t wait to see how all that plays out!

Sofia Ortiz will play Emi Ochoa, the daughter of a dishonest state senator with a history tied to Detective Decker. Emi is a clever but unpredictable character. Originally, the role was named Shay Bennett and actress Weruche Opia was cast, but in September 2025, producers began searching for someone new to take on the part.

Rob Doherty, known for his work on Elementary, created the series. Hiaaseen, the author of the original story, will be an executive producer alongside Carl Beverly (Fleishman Is in Trouble) and Sarah Timberman (Lonely Planet). Joining Ortiz and Speedman in the cast are Kevin Rankin as Aloysius “Wish” Aiken, Bevin Bru as Melody “Mel” Romero, and Adelaide Clemens as Catherine Delacroix, as well as RJ Decker.

Actors Ortiz and Speedman both appeared in two episodes of Grey’s Anatomy as part of a special crossover event with the show Station 19. Ortiz played firefighter Andy Herrera on Station 19, and Speedman was Dr. Nick Marsh, a transplant surgeon, on Grey’s Anatomy.

ABC’s RJ Decker will premiere midseason.
