Donald Trump stated on Tuesday evening that he believes he must act on his promise to sue the BBC for a billion dollars. He claims the network deceptively edited a documentary before the election.
I was really struck by what Trump said to Laura Ingraham on Fox News. He feels strongly that he has to act, because letting people get away with things like that just isn’t right. He believes they intentionally misled the public, and what’s even more damning is that they’ve actually confessed to it.
President Trump speaks out on his $1billion BBC takedown
“They DEFRAUDED the public! And they’ve admitted it! No way to treat an ally”
Okay, so here’s the deal: the BBC has until Friday night – 10 PM to be exact – to issue an apology and offer some kind of financial settlement. If they don’t, Donald Trump is apparently taking them to court down in Florida. As a movie buff, it sounds like the plot of a legal thriller is unfolding in real time!

The issue began with a BBC documentary called Panorama, broadcast shortly before the 2024 election. Leaked documents show that Michael Prescott, who previously advised the BBC on editorial standards, believed a speech given by Donald Trump on January 6th at the Capitol was misleadingly edited.
An internal memo obtained by The Telegraph reveals that the BBC altered a Donald Trump speech to make it seem as though he was advocating for the attack on the Capitol.

During a recent broadcast, Panorama presented footage of the president saying, “We’re going to walk to the Capitol, I’ll be with you, and we fight. We fight like hell, and if you don’t fight like hell, you’re not gonna have a country anymore.” However, the program didn’t reveal that there was a 54-minute gap between the president saying he would walk to the Capitol and the start of the “fight” portion of his speech.
The recent scandal has caused significant disruption at the BBC. However, Donald Trump is insisting the organization be held responsible for its actions.
British Broadcasting Chaos
As a big fan of both the BBC and quality journalism, I was pretty surprised to read that Tim Davie, the Director-General, and Deborah Turness, the CEO of News, have stepped down. It seems the recent discussions and scrutiny around BBC News played a part in their decisions, as Davie himself mentioned in a message to staff. He didn’t say it was the only reason, but it definitely contributed.
Donald J. Trump Truth Social Post 03:46 PM EST 11/09/25
Top BBC executives, including Director-General Tim Davie, are leaving their positions – or have been removed – after it was discovered they altered my January 6th speech. I want to thank The Telegraph for revealing this dishonest behavior.

Following the resignations, Trump labeled Davie and Turness as dishonest and corrupt journalists on Truth Social, claiming they attempted to unfairly influence the presidential election.
The following day, the BBC confirmed they had received a letter from Donald Trump’s legal team. The letter requested a formal apology, a complete withdrawal of the statement in question, and financial compensation for the damage caused to President Trump’s reputation.
The BBC has until 10 p.m. U.K. time on Friday, November 14th, to address these requests. Otherwise, President Trump says he will be forced to take legal action and seek at least $1 billion in damages.

Okay, so I was reading about this whole thing with the BBC and a recent news report. Apparently, the head of the BBC, Samir Shah, sent a letter to a committee admitting they messed up. He basically said that after looking into it, they agree the way the report was edited looked like it was encouraging violence, and that was a mistake. They’re officially apologizing for that bad judgment call. It’s good they’re owning up to it, honestly – you gotta be careful with how you present things, especially these days.
Despite a response from Shah, Donald Trump stated Tuesday evening he still intended to file the lawsuit. He has a track record of pursuing legal action and succeeding, as evidenced by past cases involving CBS News, ABC News, and Meta.
Trump’s Attempts to Hold the Media to Account
In 2024, Donald Trump claimed that both 60 Minutes and ABC News unfairly edited interviews and made false statements about him, leading to settlements of $16 million in each case. He specifically alleged that 60 Minutes selectively edited an interview with Kamala Harris to influence the election, and that George Stephanopoulos at ABC News made several untrue claims about him.
In January, Meta reached a $25 million settlement with Donald Trump after he claimed they wrongly censored his accounts on social media.

Although not all of his legal challenges have won in court – cases against CNN, The New York Times, and The Washington Post were all thrown out – Trump is actively trying to fight what he sees as unfair and biased news coverage, both in the United States and internationally.
