Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, and Emily Blunt starred together in the hugely popular and memorable comedy The Devil Wears Prada back in 2006. Now, almost twenty years later, they’re reprising their roles in a new film, and the first trailer has just been released.
To build excitement for the movie’s release on May 1, 2026, 20th Century Studios is launching a fashion line. The new film, a sequel to the beloved 2006 original, features many of the same memorable characters. The first look at the movie shows a funny and knowing reunion between Meryl Streep’s Miranda Priestly and Anne Hathaway’s Andy Sachs, playing on the original film’s themes.
The short teaser trailer reveals very little about the story. Instead, it highlights the film’s fashion, even focusing on Miranda’s red Jimmy Choo shoes as she walks down a corridor. Just as the elevator doors are about to close, Andy stops them and confidently steps inside. Miranda coolly responds, “Took you long enough,” a clear nod to her famous line from the 2006 film: “By all means, move at a glacial pace. You know how that thrills me.”
The sequel’s promotional description jokingly references a famous line from the first movie, sarcastically calling the announcement of a spring release “groundbreaking.” It also confirms that the original stars, along with Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci, will be back for the new film.
The upcoming sequel will bring back the original cast alongside director David Frankel and writer Aline Brosh McKenna – a welcome sign given the high expectations for the film. In addition to these familiar faces, The Devil Wears Prada 2 will introduce a new group of characters played by Kenneth Branagh, Simone Ashley, Justin Theroux, Lucy Liu, Patrick Brammall, Caleb Hearon, Helen J. Shen, Pauline Chalamet, B.J. Novak, and Conrad Ricamora. Tracie Thoms and Tibor Feldman are also returning as Lily and Irv from the first movie.
