The highly anticipated follow-up to the 2023 film is coming soon! The first trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, the new animated adventure, has just been released.
It’s been two years since The Super Mario Bros. Movie became a billion-dollar success, and Chris Pratt is returning as Mario. Alongside him will be familiar faces like Peach, Luigi, and Toad. The new trailer also reveals a powerful new character, Princess Rosalina, voiced by Brie Larson, known for her role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In early September, Illumination revealed the title of their upcoming film as The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and shared a first look teaser. They also announced the movie will be released in theaters on April 3, 2026, by Universal Pictures.
The trailer for the new Super Mario movie revealed that Brie Larson will voice Rosalina, and Benny Safdie will join the cast as Bowser Jr. Nintendo announced this during a presentation on November 12th. More characters and voice actors will be revealed soon.
Okay, so the new trailer is seriously fun! It looks like a big focus is on Bowser – Jack Black is perfect, by the way – and how he’s trying to deal with his anger issues through painting. But don’t worry, it’s still packed with all the adventure, action, and danger we love! We’re getting a whole new story with some fresh villains, and the trailer hints that Rosalina is going to be incredibly powerful. I’m so excited!
Joining the voice cast are Larson and Safdie, along with several returning actors from The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Chris Pratt will be back as Mario, alongside Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek. More cast members are still to be announced.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is inspired by the beloved Super Mario Galaxy video game, originally released for the Nintendo Wii in 2007 and often ranked among the greatest games ever made. Details about the movie’s story are currently being kept secret.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will premiere in theaters on Apr. 3, 2026.
