After over three decades on the air, The Simpsons is celebrating a huge achievement: its 800th episode! The show first aired on Fox on December 17, 1989, and has become a cultural icon, greatly influencing television and pop culture. Showrunner Matt Selman hinted back in September that the special episode will feature a storyline centered around the family’s dog.
The Simpsons sets release date for special 800th episode
I’m so excited for The Simpsons! They’re airing a special 800th episode on Sunday, February 15th, 2025, at 8:00 PM Eastern Time on Fox. And get this – right after that, at 8:30 PM Eastern, they’re finishing up Season 37 with the finale! Fox just announced this as part of their plans for the winter of 2026, and I’m already marking my calendar!
In a recent interview, co-showrunner Matt Selman hinted that the family dog, Santa’s Little Helper, will play a significant role in the show’s 800th episode, which airs in February. While he was hesitant to reveal too much, he did say the storyline revolves around the dog – specifically, that the dog gets fat.
In April 2025, Fox announced that The Simpsons will continue for four more seasons, even as Season 36 is still being broadcast. This means the show will definitely produce new episodes after it reaches its 800th episode.
As a huge movie and TV fan, I’ve always wondered why The Simpsons still feels so current, even after all these years. What really blows my mind is how often they seem to have predicted things that actually happened – sometimes years before they did! It’s one of the biggest reasons the show continues to stay relevant, in my opinion.
As a big TV fan, I was checking out Fox’s winter schedule, and it looks like things are kicking off with Season 14 of The Masked Singer on January 7th. Then, on January 14th, Johnny Knoxville is hosting a new take on Fear Factor, called Fear Factor: House of Fear. And if you’re a Simpsons and Family Guy person like me, mark February 15th on your calendar! That’s when Season 24 of Family Guy premieres, right after the Season 37 finale of The Simpsons. It’s going to be a busy winter for Fox!
