Elizabeth Olsen Confirms Scarlet Witch’s Fate in VisionQuest, And It’s Grim

Fans hoping to see Wanda Maximoff, also known as Scarlet Witch, return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe are likely to be disappointed.

Elizabeth Olsen recently discussed the upcoming Vision Quest series with Inverse. She confessed she hadn’t heard much about it until Paul Bettany, her co-star, shared his enthusiasm. Olsen explained to Inverse that it seems to connect perfectly with both “Agatha All Along” and WandaVision, and she’s looking forward to seeing it.

Elizabeth Olsen’s recent statements have left fans unsure about Scarlet Witch’s confirmed return, even though many are trying to find evidence of it following the character’s apparent death in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Adding to the confusion, Olsen mentioned she doesn’t recall recording for Marvel Zombies, despite the character appearing in that animated series.

Elizabeth Olsen joked that her work on Marvel Zombies felt like a distant memory when she couldn’t quite remember how important Scarlet Witch was in the story. In that series, Scarlet Witch is known as the Queen of the Dead, which might suggest a significant role for her in future installments, or perhaps not.

What Can Marvel Fans Expect From Vision Quest?

Paul Bettany is reprising his role as Vision, a character who first appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Avengers: Age of Ultron and began a relationship with Wanda Maximoff (played by Elizabeth Olsen). While details about the upcoming series Vision Quest have been limited, enough information has been released for fans to speculate about its storyline. At New York Comic Con 2025, it was announced that Noah Mollica will play Tommy, a role previously held by Jett Klyne in WandaVision. Vision Quest is intended to complete the story arc begun in WandaVision and continued in Agatha All Along. According to Paul Bettany, the series will delve into the theme of “intergenerational trauma” and focus on the dynamics between fathers and sons. He also shared, via ComicBookMovie, that Vision Quest will explore facing difficult truths and accepting who you are.

James Spader will return as Ultron, the character who created Vision, alongside Paul Bettany and Rebecca Mollica. While Elizabeth Olsen isn’t expected to appear in Vision Quest, the series has a lot of potential thanks to Terry Matalas, the showrunner from Star Trek: Picard, leading the project.

Vision Quest is expected to stream on Disney+ some time in 2026.
