The Christmas season is officially here! Snow has already fallen in many places, and we’re seeing familiar festive faces – Macaulay Culkin is reprising his role as Kevin McAllister in a new ad, and Hallmark is releasing new holiday movies every day. Adding to the excitement, the 25th anniversary of the live-action How the Grinch Stole Christmas is being celebrated with a heartwarming reunion of stars Jim Carrey and Taylor Momsen.
As a huge movie fan, I feel like everyone knows How the Grinch Stole Christmas – it’s a classic! But just in case it’s been a while, the 2000 version starred Jim Carrey as the Grinch and Taylor Momsen as little Cindy Lou Who. It’s pretty wild to think that after they finished filming, they didn’t cross paths again for years!
Taylor Momsen unexpectedly reunited with a former co-star at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. She told People magazine about her experience working with the comedian, emphasizing how consistently kind and enjoyable he was to work with.
I really cherish our relationship. He was incredibly protective and always so kind to me. I especially loved getting to know him on the set of ‘The Grinch,’ even with all the makeup – it was a truly wonderful experience.
It was so great to hear how much fun Momsen had making the movie, and how much of that was thanks to Jim Carrey! He really is the heart of what makes it such a fun, family-friendly Christmas film – and hearing a former child actor like her say so just confirms what I already believed. Honestly, as a longtime Carrey fan, it doesn’t surprise me at all that he created such a magical experience.
Jim Carrey is widely known as one of the nicest people in Hollywood, and his kindness extended to everyone he worked with. For Taylor Momsen, who was just six years old when they began working together, this was especially wonderful. She explains that Carrey was not only a great colleague but also a positive role model, showing her what the industry could be like. Momsen often talks about how much of an impact working with him had on her.
Seeing an artist so dedicated to their work when I was younger really stuck with me, and it’s something I still think about today. I’m looking forward to being able to tell them that now that I’m older.
This Christmas season is bringing the kind of joyful energy we really need. However, after playing Cindy Lou Who in How the Grinch Stole Christmas, her acting career didn’t continue with the same success. She faced teasing from children about the role, though she eventually came to terms with it. Despite this, she kept working, even landing a part on Gossip Girl. Later, she stepped away from Hollywood, but then successfully returned to the spotlight with her band, The Pretty Reckless.
I was thrilled to see Taylor Momsen and Jim Carrey together again – a wonderful early holiday treat! It’s hard to believe it’s been 25 years since How The Grinch Stole Christmas first came out. That’s a bit of a reality check, isn’t it? If you want to watch the classic Jim Carrey film, you can stream it on Peacock. And be sure to check out the full Christmas movie schedule for some new favorites!
