Even though Jonathan Majors is no longer playing Kang the Conqueror in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it seems the franchise might still use a similar idea. There’s talk that the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie could feature different versions or robotic duplicates of Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr., in a way that was originally planned for Kang in the cancelled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty film.
Avengers: Doomsday rumored to feature Doombots
Sources say the next Avengers movie, tentatively titled Doomsday, will likely feature a large number of Doctor Doom characters – either multiple versions of Doom himself, or a massive army of his robotic duplicates, called Doombots.
If the multiverse idea proves true in the next Marvel movie, it would resemble early plans for Avengers 5, which focused on Kang the Conqueror. Like the tease after the credits of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania suggested, the film would have heavily featured a large group of different Kang variants – including characters like Immortus, Scarlet Centurion, and Rama-Tut – playing key roles.
After entertainment insider Richtman shared some new information about the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie, fans online started speculating about how Doctor Doom’s different versions might appear. Richtman later clarified that instead of multiple versions of Doom himself, the film could feature Doombots – robotic duplicates of the villain. He explained on X (formerly Twitter), “Just to clarify, I didn’t say ‘variants.’ It could be that, or it could be Doombots. It’s still unknown.”
Marvel has announced most of the big names who will be in Avengers: Doomsday, but they’re still keeping specific details about the rest of the cast and the story a secret. Currently, Avengers 5 is scheduled to be released in theaters on December 18, 2026, and the next movie, Avengers: Secret Wars, is planned for December 17, 2027.
