George Clooney is currently promoting his upcoming 2025 film, Jay Kelly, where he stars with Adam Sandler and Laura Dern – all incredibly well-known actors. He’s also been discussing rising stars in the industry, particularly praising Zendaya and Glen Powell. In an interview on The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast, Clooney shared his thoughts on Zendaya, saying:
Zendaya is incredibly versatile – she excels in television, commercials, and films, and consistently delivers exceptional performances across all platforms.

I understand his point completely. Zendaya is much more than just an actress; she’s a major fashion influence and is involved in many projects beyond movies. She’s received an Emmy for her role in Euphoria, and she represents brands like Louis Vuitton and On. Her fame extends beyond the film industry, but movies are still a key part of what makes her so well-known.
Just looking at her upcoming film roles in 2026, she’s already confirmed for four big movies: The Drama, The Odyssey, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and Dune: Part Three.
George Clooney famously said Zendaya is a true talent – just like him. While Zendaya’s work includes high-fashion campaigns, Clooney is known for his Nespresso commercials. Both have found success on TV, with Zendaya starring in the hit show Euphoria and Clooney becoming a star on E.R. Beyond that, they both have the ability to lead a movie with ease.
The Academy Award winner also spoke highly of Glen Powell, who’s recently become a major star after years of hard work in Hollywood – a similar path to George Clooney’s. Since the success of Top Gun: Maverick, Powell’s popularity has skyrocketed. Just in the past couple of months, he’s starred in the TV show Chad Powers (available on Hulu) and is about to release a new movie, The Running Man.
Speaking about why the 37-year-old actor is one to watch, Clooney said:
Glen Powell is a really promising actor. He’s reached a point in his career similar to where I was, and he’s clearly ambitious – he wants to be involved in all aspects of filmmaking, like directing, producing, and writing, and he does it with a good sense of humor. I think that self-awareness is key, and I still believe there’s a lot of potential in the industry.
When George Clooney suggests things aren’t over for traditional movie stars, he believes there’s still a place for them in Hollywood. There’s been a lot of discussion lately about whether true movie stars still exist, but Clooney—and I—think they do.
Movie stars aren’t what they used to be, but exciting young talent is definitely emerging. I agree with George Clooney – actors like Zendaya and Glen Powell are poised to become huge stars, and it’s going to be fun watching their careers unfold.
