Even though Robbie played Harley Quinn for the third time in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, which was meant to be a fresh start for DC, not everything in that movie is considered official continuity. Because of this, some fans believe the DC Universe needs a new actress to play Harley Quinn to fully move forward into a new direction.

Even though the second season of Peacemaker officially established some details within James Gunn’s DC universe, the show presented noticeably different takes on characters like Superman, Lois Lane, and Lex Luthor. This means Harley Quinn could be significantly reimagined next, and if Margot Robbie doesn’t reprise her popular portrayal, I have a great suggestion for who could take on the role.

Watching Maddie Phillips in Gen V really got me thinking – she’d be an amazing Harley Quinn! She’s 31, and honestly, she just has the look and the acting chops to pull it off. Looking at her previous roles, it feels like she’s already been practicing! For example, in Supernatural, she played this really cool necromancer disguised as a librarian, and she was incredibly convincing as someone capable of… well, let’s just say she wasn’t afraid to play a killer.

She’s incredibly convincing with her gentle and unassuming personality, which makes the dark secrets she reveals even more frightening. This shows she can easily portray Harley Quinn’s intelligence and strategic thinking, as well as her wild and aggressive nature. Plus, her character’s positive growth in season two of Gen V hints that she could get audiences to sympathize with Harley, even after she does terrible things.

In the The Boys spin-off, Cate repeatedly let her friends down and spiraled into a difficult place, mostly because someone was controlling her. Harley Quinn’s story often follows a similar pattern: she’s usually led astray by the Joker, causing her to abandon a bright future and turn to crime.

Whether the DC Universe envisions Harley Quinn as a troubled criminal driven by devotion or a changed hero seeking redemption, Maddie Phillips has demonstrated in her past work that she can convincingly play either role. I believe she’d be perfect for this famous character if given the chance.

Margot Robbie has become incredibly popular as Harley Quinn, and her star power is a huge benefit for the DC Universe. Because of her work in The Suicide Squad, and especially her connection with Peacemaker, it would be difficult for a different actress to take on the role now.

I believe James Gunn’s new DC movies should definitely keep Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn if she wants to continue the role. Luckily, there’s still room for other versions of the character – perhaps someone like Maddie Phillips could play Harley in Matt Reeves’ Batman world or in other separate DC stories, offering a fresh interpretation.
