Those hoping to watch a new episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Thursday night were surprised to see a repeat broadcast instead. The planned show, with guests David Duchovny, Joe Keery from Stranger Things, and Madison Beer, was unexpectedly canceled at the last minute, and ABC didn’t offer any reason why.
Beer later confirmed the cancellation on Instagram, posting around 7 p.m. ET.
She explained that her appearance on @jimmykimmellive, which was supposed to air tonight, had to be postponed due to unexpected issues.

ABC and Jimmy Kimmel Live’s social media accounts didn’t say anything about the canceled episode. However, people who had tickets received an email from the show’s team saying the taping was postponed and they would be contacted about rescheduling. The email apologized for any inconvenience.
When an episode from October 28th unexpectedly aired instead of a new one, it quickly sparked rumors online. The entertainment news site LateNighter reported a “personal matter” caused the delay, but didn’t offer any specifics. Both Duchovny and Keery remained silent about the cancellation.
Timing Raises Eyebrows
The fact that this happened so soon after a previous incident hasn’t been lost on anyone. Just two months ago, Kimmel was temporarily taken off the air after making comments about the attempted assassination of Charlie Kirk. On September 15th, he jokingly suggested the person who allegedly carried out the attack was connected to the “MAGA” movement, a comment he later called poorly timed, though he never offered a full apology.

After the incident, Disney, the parent company of ABC, briefly stopped airing Jimmy Kimmel Live!, explaining they wanted to prevent making an already difficult situation worse. Several local ABC stations even declined to broadcast the show when it came back. Sources say Jimmy Kimmel was able to return to the air after speaking directly with Disney CEO Bob Iger and entertainment co-chair Dana Walden.
Since then, the late-night host’s show hasn’t regained its audience or advertising revenue. In fact, ratings initially jumped when he came back, but have since dropped sharply. Although there’s no clear reason why Thursday’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel was canceled, ABC hasn’t offered an explanation, which has fueled a lot of rumors.
Disney’s Late-Night Dilemma
Jimmy Kimmel’s talk show, which used to consistently attract viewers for ABC, has been struggling recently. Competition is up, fewer people are watching traditional TV, and the show has received criticism online. The sudden cancellation announced Thursday highlights a larger problem for Disney, as it continues to deal with issues related to the behavior of some of its stars.

The network hasn’t said when new episodes will air or explained the unexpected break. Those hoping for updates will need to follow the network on social media, as that seems to be where information will be shared.
