Recent news about the Netflix series One Piece shows the streaming service is serious about the franchise. Ever since the first season ended, viewers have been eager for updates about a possible continuation, thanks to the show’s widespread popularity with both longtime One Piece fans and new audiences.
Now that the second season of One Piece is scheduled to premiere on Netflix in March 2026, we’re starting to hear more about what’s next for the show. Netflix has already greenlit a third season and even announced some new cast members, all before season 2 is out! This, along with other news about the One Piece universe, makes one thing clear: Netflix is very committed to the series.
Xolo Maridueña’s Ace Casting Shows How Much Netflix Values One Piece
As a huge fan of cinema and streaming, I’ve been really impressed with what Netflix is doing with One Piece. These recent announcements really show how much they believe in the series as a valuable property. Just recently, they confirmed that Xolo Maridueña, who plays Luffy, will also be taking on the role of Portgas D. Ace – Luffy’s adoptive brother – in season 3! And they let us know this way back in November 2025, four months before season 2 even drops. That’s a clear sign they’re committed to the long haul.
The choice of Xolo Maridueña sends a strong signal that Netflix is committed to the success of One Piece. Maridueña gained widespread recognition through the Netflix series Cobra Kai and recently starred in the DC film Blue Beetle. He’s quickly becoming a major Hollywood star, and his rising popularity is notable considering he’s playing a supporting character, Portgas D. Ace, in the series.
Ace isn’t a small character, and he plays a significant role in Luffy’s story, with much of his past being revealed in the anime. However, when looking at how much he actually appears on screen, he doesn’t have as much time as the main characters like the Straw Hat crew.
Seeing a star like that join the cast really shows how much Netflix believes in the potential of a live-action One Piece – they’re clearly putting a lot of trust in this show’s future, and I’m excited to see where it goes!
Everything About One Piece‘s Next Two Seasons Sounds Incredibly Exciting

In addition to the casting of Meridueña, the latest news about the next two seasons of One Piece is incredibly promising, reinforcing Netflix’s strong commitment to the series. The trailers for season 2 perfectly capture the look and feel of the original manga and anime, showcasing characters like Nico Robin and Tony Tony Chopper, as well as locations like Loguetown. Plus, a wide variety of other characters have been cast, adding to the excitement.
Lera Abova is a strong choice for Nico Robin, and the visual effects team has done a fantastic job bringing Chopper to life. The series also features talented actors playing key members of Baroque Works, a significant group in the story – Joe Manganiello as Mr. 0/Crocodile, Dave Dastmalchian as Mr. 3, Charithra Chandran as Vivi, and others.
Having Xolo Maridueña as Ace and Cole Escola as Bon Clay definitely makes the third season of One Piece even more thrilling. It’s clear the show has no plans to lose momentum anytime soon.
Netflix Struck Gold With One Piece
Netflix has clearly found a huge hit with the One Piece series. Its success on the streaming charts, along with everything else surrounding the show, proves the live-action adaptation is a major success, and will likely remain so. Netflix is also continuing to offer the original One Piece anime series as well.
Fans can now watch the latest episodes of the One Piece anime’s Egghead Arc on both Netflix and popular anime streaming services like Crunchyroll. Netflix is showing its support for the original anime alongside its live-action adaptation.
As a huge anime fan, I was so excited to hear about the new One Piece! Netflix and WIT Studio are basically rebooting the whole series, which is awesome. They’re aiming for a fresh take on the story with updated animation, a quicker pace, and a completely different visual style than what we’ve seen before. It’s like getting to experience One Piece all over again, but even better!
Netflix will be the only place to stream One Piece, demonstrating how committed the service is to the series. It’s clear Netflix has struck gold with One Piece, both with the exciting live-action adaptation and the potential for expanding the story’s world.
