Vivienne Medrano, the creator of Hazbin Hotel, has explained how the deal Alastor made for his soul will affect the show going forward. Episode 4 of season 2 revealed that Alastor’s soul is connected to Rosie, with whom he made a deal for great power while he was alive. Now, Alastor is attempting to break free from her control.

In a recent interview with Polygon, Vivienne Medrano discussed Alastor’s past and how it connects to Rosie. She revealed that their relationship will be central to season 3 of Hazbin Hotel, explaining the source of Rosie’s power and the reason for Alastor’s seven-year disappearance. These reveals will also tie into the overall story arc the show is developing.

He also pointed to Sir Pentious’s Victorian-era appearance in season 2, episode 2, as another example of how the characters’ human forms were carefully considered and designed to fit their overall personalities and stories. The human forms of these characters really show their personalities,” she explains. “They vary quite a bit – some look drastically different from their demon selves, while others are nearly identical. When designing Pentious’s human form, we debated whether to focus on capturing his essence as a character or making it historically accurate for the time period. Ultimately, we decided to create a look that simply felt like him.

Season 2 of Hazbin Hotel has shown us more about the characters’ pasts. We learned through a flashback that Alastor was a serial killer on Earth who used his victims in rituals to become powerful in Hell. He’s now frustrated with being controlled by Rosie, particularly after his defeat by Adam at the end of season 1.

In season 2, episode 4, Alastor deliberately lets Vox capture him as part of a scheme to free himself from his current imprisonment. While his ultimate goal isn’t yet known, he’s upset that Rosie won’t assist him. Despite this, he remains a formidable opponent, utilizing his shadowy abilities to nearly defeat the Vs.

Alastor is currently facing challenges due to his deal with Rosie, but we likely won’t get full explanations until season 3 of Hazbin Hotel. Right now, in season 2, he’s been captured by Vox, who is revealing his plans to take over Heaven and become a god. It’s unclear if Alastor will try to stop him.
