As a huge sci-fi fan, I’ve been hearing amazing things about Apple TV+’s new show, and it seems like the critics agree – it really delivers! It’s created by Vince Gilligan, the genius behind Breaking Bad, and everyone’s calling it a masterpiece. Plus, Rhea Seehorn, who I absolutely loved in Better Call Saul, is starring as a character who has the incredibly unique job of saving the world from happiness. Sounds wild, right? I’m definitely adding it to my watchlist.
Currently, the series Pluribus has a perfect 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 28 critic reviews. Reviewers are calling it an instant classic, and saying it lives up to the hype surrounding its creators and actors. Collider described it as a “sci-fi masterpiece” that’s both unsettling, funny, and emotionally impactful, while consistently surprising viewers. Consequence believes it’s the best artistic work to come out of the COVID-19 pandemic, because it approaches those difficult themes in a unique way, and explores the lasting emotional effects of that time.
In a review for MovieWeb, the show’s impressive scope was highlighted, made possible by Apple TV’s significant financial backing. Despite focusing on a small cast, especially the character portrayed by Seehorn, Pluribus feels grand in scale, evident in its beautiful visuals and carefully chosen filming locations. It appears creator Vince Gilligan has exceeded the production values of his past work, delivering a visually stunning experience.
What truly stands out about Pluribus is its grand scale. With a large budget from Apple and filmed in widescreen, the series has a remarkably expansive look and feel. Filmed mainly in and around Albuquerque, New Mexico – the same location used for Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul – creator Vince Gilligan and his team successfully create a world that feels appropriately massive. The show frequently features large, often silent scenes that showcase its impressive technical achievements, and these moments are visually stunning.
