Pierce Brosnan & Samuel L. Jackson’s Western The Unholy Trinity Finds Redemption on Streaming

The film’s performance proves that a movie’s success shouldn’t be measured by box office numbers alone. Despite a limited theatrical run earning just over $1 million, this hidden gem of a Western has gained a following thanks to streaming on Hulu and Paramount+.

It’s no surprise that a film about second chances is finding success on streaming. The Unholy Trinity, starring Pierce Brosnan and Samuel L. Jackson, is currently the second most popular movie on Hulu, right between the thriller The Hand That Rocks the Cradle and the holiday film Joy to the World. For the past week, it’s consistently ranked among Hulu’s top four movies. The film is also performing well internationally, appearing in the Top 10 charts on Paramount+ in both Canada and Australia for several days running.

Richard Gray directs The Unholy Trinity, a story set in 1870s Montana, just before the hanging of Isaac Broadway (Tim Daly). Before his execution, Isaac asks his son, Henry (Brandon Lessard), to find and kill the man who falsely accused him. Henry travels to the isolated town of Trinity, determined to honor his father’s request, but finds himself unexpectedly stuck there. He’s caught between Gabriel Dove, the town’s new sheriff, and a shadowy character known as St. Christopher, portrayed by Pierce Brosnan and Samuel L. Jackson.

The Unholy Trinity Is Samuel L. Jackson and Pierce Brosnan’s First Movie Together

Though both Pierce Brosnan and Samuel L. Jackson have been acting since the 1970s, their new film, The Unholy Trinity, is the first time they’ve shared the screen. Before the movie’s release, the actors discussed their experience making the Western, and Brosnan revealed he actually came up with his character’s name. “I named him Gabriel,” he said. “I also made him Irish because so many Irish people, including my own siblings, traveled extensively during that time period – and still do today.”

The actor explained how he decided to do The Unholy Trinity. He said Richie Gray gave him the script, and he’s a fan of Westerns. He was eager to film on location in Montana and believes in taking work when it’s offered. He prefers to stay busy and make movies rather than waiting for a perfect role, saying he’d rather work on a project he enjoys than focus on just attending acting classes.

The Unholy Trinity is available to stream on Hulu.
