HBO sources confirm Harry Potter series won’t have a narrator

According to a recent report, the Harry Potter series will not have a narrator at all.

I first heard whispers about the show potentially using an actor to narrate the history of the wizarding world from Redanian Intelligence, a really reliable source for news about shows like House of the Dragon and The Witcher. They were the ones who really brought it to my attention, and it’s been exciting to follow the possibility ever since!

A report surfaced on October 31st stating that Tom Turner, known for his work on shows like The Crown, Beauty and the Beast, and Anatomy of a Scandal, would narrate the series. This news quickly spread, with multiple Harry Potter fan forums, social media accounts, and British news outlets reporting the potential casting, supporting the initial claims made by Redanian Intelligence.

Sources at HBO have now told Deadline that the upcoming Harry Potter series has not cast a British actor as its narrator.

As of now, the actors confirmed for the upcoming reboot are Dominic McLaughlin playing the main character, Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, Nick Frost as Hagrid, John Lithgow as Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall, and Paapa Essiedu as Snape.

Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod are now executive producers on the series. Gardiner will write and oversee the show as showrunner, while Mylod will direct several episodes of the reboot.

Although HBO hasn’t announced an exact date yet, the Harry Potter series is expected to premiere in 2027.
