Why Moon Knight Season 2 Hasn’t Happened

Oscar Isaac joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2022 with the show Moon Knight. Although critics generally liked the series, Disney hasn’t announced a second season yet. Created by Jeremy Slater for Disney+, Moon Knight was a six-episode show as part of the MCU’s Phase 4. Isaac played the main character, who many fans compare to Marvel’s take on Batman.

Although Moon Knight was Oscar Isaac’s first role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he’d previously portrayed Marvel characters. He played Apocalypse in X-Men: Apocalypse back in 2016, and later provided a voice for Miguel O’Hara, also known as Spider-Man 2099, in the 2019 animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

The series Moon Knight was a significant opportunity for Oscar Isaac, giving him a leading role within the Marvel Cinematic Universe and allowing him to play multiple characters. Because the main character has dissociative identity disorder (DID), Isaac skillfully portrayed three distinct personalities – Marc Spector, Steven Grant, and Jake Lockley – all connected to Moon Knight.

Moon Knight Season 2 Is Not How Marvel Plans To Bring Back Moon Knight

Moon Knight offered a darker, more realistic take on the superhero story, and it was mostly praised by both critics and viewers. It earned an 86% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, and audiences gave it an even better score of 88%. Despite its success, Disney+ and Marvel Studios initially planned it as a one-time story and didn’t have any firm plans for a second season.

The ending of Moon Knight definitely suggests there’s more to the story, particularly with the introduction of Jake Lockley in the post-credits scene. While the cast – including Oscar Isaac, May Calamawy, and Ethan Hawke – are all eager to return for a second season, Marvel Studios seems to have different plans for how the character will appear in the MCU going forward.

Even before the Moon Knight series premiered in 2022, fans speculated about the character appearing in future Marvel Cinematic Universe films. While Moon Knight hasn’t been in a movie yet, Marvel executive Brad Winderbaum recently shared an update in early 2025. He indicated the character will return in a future MCU project, but not through a second season of the Moon Knight series.

Will Oscar Isaac Or Moon Knight Appear In Avengers: Doomsday?

Although it’s not confirmed, many fans are hoping Oscar Isaac will be back in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the 2026 film Avengers: Doomsday. If he does return, some believe he might play Apocalypse instead of Moon Knight. This is because the movie is expected to heavily feature the X-Men and explore the multiverse. Still, fans haven’t given up on the possibility of a surprise appearance by Moon Knight.

The cast of Avengers: Doomsday is already very large, but not all the characters have been officially announced yet. Even if Oscar Isaac doesn’t appear in the movie, he recently returned to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Moon Knight. He provided the voice for Marc Spector in the premiere episode of What If…? season 3, titled “What If… the Hulk Fought the Mech Avengers?” Other familiar MCU actors like Anthony Mackie, Mark Ruffalo, Sebastian Stan, and Simu Liu also appeared in that episode.

Could Moon Knight Season 2 Still Happen?

Although a second season of Moon Knight isn’t currently being planned, Marvel hasn’t ruled it out completely. Brad Winderbaum, discussing the future of Marvel TV shows, explained that the approach to series like Moon Knight has evolved. Originally, these shows were intended as limited series to introduce characters who could then appear in larger Marvel Cinematic Universe stories.

The world of TV is always evolving, but there’s still a lot of fan interest in Moon Knight. This means Marvel could still decide to make a second season. If the character shows up in any Marvel movies, a second season becomes even more likely. The show’s format worked really well, and as long as both Marvel and Oscar Isaac want to do another season, there’s a good chance it could happen.
