Though often disliked by viewers and those within the show, General Hospital‘s Drew Cain isn’t the worst character on the canvas. Drew (played by Cameron Mathison, originally Billy Miller) wasn’t always a villain; he first arrived as a hero. A former Navy SEAL, he was manipulated into thinking he was Jason Morgan’s (Steve Burton) twin brother.
Over time, Drew consistently showed how selfless he was. For example, he bravely risked his life to save Liesl Obrecht, as she was the only bone marrow donor compatible with Willow Tait, who was battling cancer. He also took the blame – and went to jail – for his girlfriend, Carly Spencer, when they were accused of illegal stock trading. While incarcerated, he was seriously injured in an attack and nearly lost his life.
After Drew got out of prison, he was a very different person. He later had a relationship with Willow, who was married to his nephew, Michael Corinthos. He even became a congressman. Because Drew has made so many enemies in Port Charles, someone shot him twice in the back. Despite all this, Drew isn’t as bad as some of the other characters on General Hospital.
Ava Jerome

Ava is considered one of the most dangerous villains in the history of General Hospital. Since she first appeared in 2013, she’s been responsible for numerous crimes, most recently holding Ric Lansing, Alexis Davis, and Kristina Corinthos-Davis hostage and drugging them.
Ava once believed she had killed her ex-husband, Nikolas Cassadine, but she was more concerned with hiding the act than with the fact that he was dead. However, her most shocking act was when she deliberately shot and killed Connie Falconeri.
Drew has taken lives, but only when protecting himself, and often while under the manipulative control of Helena Cassadine. Ava, however, is far more ruthless and calculating than Drew ever was.
Sonny Corinthos

For more than three decades, Sonny has been a well-known figure in Port Charles – a tough mobster with a surprisingly kind side. Even Mayor Laura Collins turns a blind eye to his criminal activities, because he’s also a generous philanthropist who has given a lot of money to the city, particularly to the hospital. Despite his good deeds, Sonny’s involvement in crime is extensive.
Sonny has committed truly awful acts, most notably the cold-blooded killings of A.J. Quartermaine and Jagger Cates, for which he’s never faced consequences and shows no regret. While Drew has also made serious mistakes, his actions don’t compare to the extent of Sonny’s wrongdoing.
Jack Brennan
Image via ABC
Drew isn’t honest, but his lies pale in comparison to those of WSB agent Jack Brennan (Chris L. McKenna), who is currently deceiving his girlfriend, Carly. When Carly’s daughter, Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy), killed Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober) while protecting herself, she turned to Jack for help. He concealed the crime, but then secretly recruited Josslyn into the WSB, keeping it all hidden from Carly.
Jack has been consistently deceiving Carly about her daughter, and it’s a betrayal she can’t forgive. He’s recklessly endangering Josslyn and exploiting both her and Carly’s trust. While Drew is also manipulative, he’s at least more honest about his actions. Jack is a coward who used Josslyn to carry out his plans and continues to lie to Carly about it.
Jenz Sidwell
Carlo Rota, playing the villain Sidwell, is the newest threat to Port Charles and has a personal vendetta against Drew. He’s responsible for a string of terrible acts, including holding Lucky Spencer and Isaiah Gannon captive, kidnapping Sasha Corbin, poisoning Maxie Jones and leaving her in a coma, and even murdering Judge Eva Heran. He’s quickly become a dangerous enemy.
He also firebombed Charlie’s Pub, seriously injuring Kristina. There’s strong evidence he was behind the fire at Sonny’s penthouse, which left Michael badly burned. While Drew is dangerous, Sidwell is far more sinister – he’s completely evil, whereas Drew might still be able to change.
Jason Morgan
I’ve been watching Jason for years, and he’s such a complex guy. After that terrible car accident back in ’95, he really changed. He started out as Sonny’s enforcer, a really cold-blooded hitman they called Stone Cold, but over time, he showed a softer side. For people like Carly, he’s always been someone solid to lean on, a true rock and someone they deeply love. He’s saved the day so many times, but you always have to remember he’s still a really dangerous man.
Drew’s brother has a much more violent history than most people in Port Charles, and his belief that he’s justified doesn’t excuse it. It’s understandable why Drew is upset that the Quartermaine family – including the late Monica Quartermaine, played by Leslie Charlson – readily accepts Jason despite his criminal background, yet rejected him when he simply had an affair with Willow.
Britt Westbourne
Image via ABC
Britt recently returned to Port Charles after it was discovered she’d pretended to die two years prior. As the daughter of notorious figures Cesar Faison and Leisl Obrecht, she has a history of questionable behavior. Known for her sharp wit – earning her the nickname “The Britch” – Britt has committed several offenses, but her most shocking act was stealing the embryo of Lulu and Dante Falconeri and implanting it in herself, all in an attempt to force a relationship with Patrick Drake.
Okay, so the story centers around this kid, Rocco – though he was originally named Ben by his birth mother, Britt. He ended up being raised by another family, but he’s become strangely fixated on Britt. The reason? His parents kept a big secret from him – they never told him that Britt is actually his birth mother, especially because of a situation involving his other mother, Lulu, being in a coma. It’s a really interesting setup that creates a lot of emotional tension.
Okay, so as a soap opera critic, I was really thrown by this. Britt Westbourne seemingly died a hero, sacrificing herself to save Josslyn from the Hook killer – who, predictably, turned out to be Heather Webber. But now? She’s back! Not only is she alive and kicking, but she’s apparently involved in some shady, potentially dangerous research with her father. Honestly, she’s returned to Port Charles exactly as mischievous and unpredictable as ever, and I’m left wondering what exactly she’s up to this time.
Drew and Britt both have annoying personalities, but Drew is clearly mixed up in something extremely risky that could threaten everyone in Port Charles, and maybe even the entire world.
Kristina Corinthos-Davis
Image via ABC
Okay, so as the daughter of Alexis and Sonny, Kristina’s kinda grown up around a life of crime, which is rough. But lately, she’s actually gotten involved in some trouble herself, and her recent actions are pretty intense. After that awful accident – falling from Ava’s hotel room and losing Molly’s baby, which she was carrying as a surrogate – she was just consumed by grief and rage. It led her to do something really drastic: she tampered with Ava’s car brakes. It’s heartbreaking to see her go down this path, honestly.
Kristina accidentally damaged Ric’s car brakes, causing a severe accident for him and Elizabeth Baldwin. Ric then tried to blackmail Alexis about the incident, involving Ava, but ultimately kept the money for himself, investing it in bonds. Determined to recover their funds, Kristina, Alexis, and Ava devised a plan to hold Ric hostage until the bonds earned enough money to cover their losses.
Kristina, similar to other villains on General Hospital, prioritizes her own desires and doesn’t feel bad about hurting others. While Drew is also tough, he justifies his actions as being for the best, for himself and Willow. Kristina, however, seems unable to believe that violence and cruelty are acceptable ways to achieve her goals.
Even though Drew isn’t aware of everything Kristina has done, it’s understandable why he sought a restraining order to protect his daughter, Scout. Kristina’s behavior is erratic, and she seems focused solely on getting revenge.
Ric Lansing

Despite recently being held hostage himself, Ric has a history of committing terrible crimes in Port Charles. He once held a pregnant Carly captive in a panic room and secretly gave his wife, Elizabeth, birth control pills without her knowledge to prevent her from getting pregnant. When Elizabeth discovered what Ric had done to Carly, she experienced a serious medical emergency – an embolism – brought on by the pills and the shock.
Ric has a long history of wrongdoing, starting when he first appeared on the show in 2002. He recently blackmailed Alexis, but that’s just the latest in a pattern of harmful behavior. Like Drew, Ric is a threat both physically and emotionally, often tormenting those he targets – including his ongoing feud with his half-brother, Sonny.
Nina Reeves
Image via ABC
Nina and Drew have a complicated history, marked by both animosity and a secret affair that continued even after Drew began dating Nina’s daughter, Willow. Despite a traumatic past – including a coma induced by her mother, Madeline Reeves, during which she unknowingly gave birth to her twin daughters, Willow and Nelle – Nina’s actions are inexcusable. She never got the chance to raise either of her daughters, but that doesn’t justify her current behavior.
Nina committed terrible acts, including stealing Ava’s baby by causing her to go into labor and deceiving everyone about Sonny’s survival. She kept the fact that Sonny was alive – though suffering from amnesia and going by the name Mike in Nixon Falls – a secret, prioritizing her relationship with him over the feelings of his children and Carly, who believed he was dead.
Recently, Nina teamed up with Portia Robinson and paid someone, Jacinda Bracken, to drug Drew with ketamine. She also lied to protect Willow after Drew was shot. While Drew has behaved terribly towards her, there’s no justification for Nina drugging him. What makes Nina worse than Drew is that she pretends to be the victim and tries to excuse her actions after committing them.
Liesl Obrecht
Liesl is a manipulative villain on General Hospital. She famously held Robin Scorpio hostage and falsely led everyone to believe Robin had died. She also played a key role in a plot to steal Lulu and Dante’s embryo and have it implanted in her daughter, Britt. Driven by her deep infatuation with Faison, Liesl was willing to do anything to win his approval, making her a particularly dangerous character.
Liesl has done so many bad things, it’s hard to keep track, yet the show still makes her seem like someone to feel sorry for. Meanwhile, Drew, who used to be a good guy, is now being painted as the villain. It’s surprising Liesl isn’t in prison for a very long time considering all the hurt she’s inflicted on others.
Over the past few years, Drew’s character on General Hospital has become increasingly unlikeable, making him a villain in the eyes of many Port Charles residents. Despite this, he’s frustrated that others who are arguably worse seem to avoid consequences, while he’s constantly held responsible for his mistakes.
Maybe people see a good person underneath everything Drew has done, and believe he’s capable of being better than his current path. Even though he’s made a lot of mistakes, the fact that even more villainous characters on General Hospital have found redemption suggests he isn’t beyond saving.
