Most TV shows, including comedies, usually have at least one episode that isn’t very good. However, some comedies manage to avoid having any weak episodes at all. Comedies are incredibly popular because they’re lighthearted, funny, and often feature characters and situations viewers can easily relate to.
Even the most beloved TV comedies have a few weak episodes, and sometimes even a whole season that isn’t very good. It’s common for shows to have ups and downs over many seasons, but often they bounce back and regain their quality.
I’ve always believed most sitcoms stumble eventually, but every now and then, you find one that truly nails it from beginning to end. Even if the show evolved over time, it somehow managed to stay consistently brilliant – honestly, it didn’t have a single weak episode!
Bob’s Burgers
303 Episodes So Far

Bob’s Burgers is a funny animated TV show created by Loren Bouchard, and it’s now in its sixteenth season. The show follows the Belcher family – Bob, Linda, and their kids Tina, Gene, and Louise – as they run their restaurant, Bob’s Burgers, in the town of Seymour’s Bay, New Jersey.
The Belcher kids balance working at their family’s restaurant with school and their own personal challenges. Meanwhile, their dad, Bob, constantly competes with Jimmy Pesto, who owns the Italian restaurant next door. Bob’s Burgers centers around the Belchers’ lives – the quirky customers they encounter at the restaurant and the adventures they have as a family.
As a critic, I’ve always been charmed by Bob’s Burgers. What really makes it work, for me, is how genuinely funny and heartwarming the Belcher family is. It’s a show that doesn’t take itself too seriously, embraces the absurd, and offers some really positive representation, all while building characters you truly care about. Thankfully, we’ve still got a couple more seasons coming, and I’m hoping it keeps up this incredible run of form.
Daria
65 Episodes
Daria is an animated comedy that aired on MTV from 1997 to 2002, lasting for five seasons. The show centers on Daria Morgendorffer, a witty and sarcastic teenager who doesn’t show much emotion. When Daria moves to the town of Lawndale with her family, she makes a friend in Jane, an artist who sees the world similarly to her.
In contrast to Daria and Jane, the show features Daria’s younger sister Quinn – who is popular, superficial, and concerned with appearances – along with her friends and the other diverse students at Lawndale High. Daria was notable for its distinctive animation, exploration of complex and grown-up ideas, smart and witty comedy, insightful observations about society, and characters who felt both different and familiar.
Every episode of Daria centers around Daria as she navigates a new challenge or experience, exploring topics like mental health, relationships, family, and friendships, all within a larger story arc. The show’s consistently high writing quality meant there weren’t any weak episodes, which also makes a reboot a difficult undertaking.
Community
110 Episodes

The TV show Community, created by Dan Harmon, aired on NBC for six seasons between 2009 and 2014. The show is set at Greendale Community College in Colorado and follows a unique group of students. One of these students is Jeff Winger (played by Joel McHale), a former lawyer who lost his license after lying about attending Columbia University.
Jeff needs to go to Greendale Community College to get a real degree. While there, he becomes friends with a diverse group of people: Britta, an outspoken activist; Abed, a film student who struggles with social situations; Shirley, a religious mother going through a divorce; Annie, a driven student who relies on medication to keep up; and Troy, a former high school football star trying to find his way.
What really made Community special, for me, was the incredible cast of characters. You had Pierce, this wealthy guy who just wanted to stay sharp, and Ben, a teacher who was…well, a little unpredictable, to say the least! It was the clash of all these different personalities that created so many genuinely funny and unforgettable moments, and honestly, I think that’s why the show was consistently brilliant throughout its entire run.
Schitt’s Creek
80 Episodes
Recently, one of the most popular and critically acclaimed comedies has been Schitt’s Creek, created by Eugene and Dan Levy. The show centers around the incredibly wealthy Rose family, who suddenly find themselves broke after their business manager steals all their money. With nothing left, they’re forced to relocate to Schitt’s Creek, a small town that’s the only thing they still own.
Having lost their fortune, the Rose family found themselves in the unfamiliar and small town of Schitt’s Creek, where they often struggled to fit in with the locals. The show, which aired for six seasons (2015-2020), was a critical darling, winning numerous awards and receiving praise for its heartwarming tone, clever writing, and excellent acting.
Schitt’s Creek steadily improved throughout its run, and a major reason for its popularity – in addition to its other qualities – was its heartwarming focus on acceptance and unconditional love. Many people consider it a feel-good show, and its consistently high quality makes it even more comforting to watch.
Freaks and Geeks
18 Episodes
Created by Paul Feig, Freaks and Geeks is a teen comedy-drama that aired on NBC for one season in 1999-2000. Despite positive reception, the show was canceled after only 15 of its 18 episodes had aired. The series is set during the 1980-1981 school year in the made-up town of Chippewa, Michigan.
The TV show Freaks and Geeks centers around siblings Lindsay Weir and Sam Weir as they navigate high school at William McKinley High. Lindsay falls in with a group of unconventional students – Daniel, Ken, Nick, and Kim – who become her friends.
Sam quickly finds friends in Neal and Bill, who are known as the school’s “geeks.” Lindsay, wanting to break free from her reputation as a smart and studious “mathlete,” starts spending time with the more laid-back students. Meanwhile, Sam and his new geek friends just try to get through high school.
Many people love Freaks and Geeks because its characters and stories feel authentic and easy to connect with. The show is also well-written, funny in a relatable way, and features strong performances from its actors. It’s considered a hidden gem, and many believe it could have been even more successful if it hadn’t been cancelled after only one season.
Fleabag
12 Episodes
Among the greatest TV shows ever made is the British comedy-drama Fleabag, created by Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Though it only lasted for two seasons, from 2016 to 2019, Fleabag quickly earned praise from critics, a dedicated fanbase, and a spot on numerous “best of” lists.
Fleabag is a show about a woman in London, played by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who is trying to figure out life while dealing with grief, loneliness, and difficult family relationships. She’s struggling to cope with the death of her best friend, Boo, and feels lost along the way.
Fleabag is widely acclaimed for its sharp writing, skillful blend of humor and emotional depth, and the unique way its main character directly addresses the audience. The show also resonates with viewers because of its exploration of universal themes like loss, family relationships, and self-discovery, as well as its believable characters and stories. Though brief, its two seasons felt complete and perfectly executed.
The Good Place
53 Episodes
Created by Michael Schur, The Good Place is widely considered one of the greatest sitcoms of all time. The show, which aired on NBC from 2016 to 2020 over four seasons, follows Eleanor Shellstrop (Kristen Bell) as she navigates the afterlife after her death.
In the show, Eleanor unexpectedly finds herself in the Good Place, a version of heaven, guided by Michael (Ted Danson). She quickly discovers a mistake has been made – she wasn’t a particularly good person and has been confused with another woman named Eleanor Shellstrop, meaning she doesn’t actually belong there.
Eleanor teams up with her soulmate, Chidi, to improve herself and prove she deserves a spot in the Good Place. The show gets off to a great start and consistently improves, particularly after a major reveal in its first season.
The Good Place expertly blends humor, philosophical ideas, and thought-provoking topics. It’s incredibly well-written, making every episode of its four seasons genuinely enjoyable – there isn’t a single weak one.
