The Best New Action Hero Breaks Bad in MMA Movie That’s Now Been Picked Up for Release

The breakout action star from last year’s Life After Fighting returns in the new MMA drama, Beast in Me. He plays the villain, facing off against a struggling fighter who’s being coached by an Academy Award-winning actor.

The action drama Beast in Me will be released domestically by Grindstone Entertainment Group. The film tells a familiar underdog story, this time set in the world of mixed martial arts (MMA). According to Deadline, the plot centers on a retired MMA fighter who returns to the ring for a crucial rematch against the champion he previously beat. He’s now the underdog and must confront his troubled past, feelings of guilt and loss, to fight for his family and reclaim his life.

Tyler Atkins directed Beast in Me, a film written by Russell Crowe and David Frigerio (known for Land of Bads). The movie stars Crowe, along with Bren Foster, Luke Hemsworth (The Terminal List: Dark Wolf), Mojean Aria (The Correspondent), Kelly Gale (Plane), George Burgess (Land of Bad), Saphira Moran (It Will Find You), and Australian musician Amy Shark, who is making her first appearance in a feature film.

I’m really intrigued by what’s coming with Beast in Me. We’re still waiting on a release date, but co-writer David Frigerio has definitely got me excited. He’s calling it a genuine martial arts film, focusing on a classic hero’s story. Apparently, the characters are complex and add a lot of emotional weight, and the fight scenes are going to be spectacular – the kind of action that should really get audiences pumped up. Seeing Russell Crowe as a trainer and Jodie Foster as the villain? Consider me hyped!

Premiering in June 2024, Life After Fighting is a straightforward and compelling story about a retired martial arts champion enjoying a peaceful life. When two of his students are kidnapped by human traffickers, he’s forced to use his fighting skills again to rescue them. You’ll definitely want to add this to your watchlist!

Bren Foster, an Australian actor and martial artist, directed and stars in Life After Fighting. The film also features Cassie Howarth, Annabelle Stephenson, Luke Ford, Eddie Arrazola, and Ethan Browne. It’s currently available to watch for free on Tubi (in some regions) and on Prime Video in the U.S. The story centers on a martial arts teacher whose two students vanish, forcing him to take on a dangerous group involved in international child trafficking.

Like many great action movies that don’t get the attention they deserve, Life After Fighting wasn’t widely seen when it was released. Because of this, it doesn’t have enough reviews to get a score on Rotten Tomatoes. However, all six critics who have reviewed it on the site gave it positive feedback, calling it an incredible crime thriller with outstanding martial arts action – and even an action movie fan’s perfect choice.
