Predator & Alien Crossover, Arnold Schwarzenegger Return Addressed by Badlands Team

The creators of the new Predator movie, Badlands, have explained how it connects to the Alien universe and discussed the possibility of Arnold Schwarzenegger reprising his role as Dutch.

The new Predator film, Predator: Badlands, hits US cinemas this weekend. Directed by Dan Trachtenberg, the movie features Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi as Dek and Elle Fanning as Thia, a synthetic human created by the Weyland-Yutani corporation who is carrying some trauma.

What did the Predator: Badlands team say about Alien and Arnold Schwarzenegger?

In a recent interview with Deadline, director Trachtenberg explained how the new Predator film, Badlands, connects to the Alien universe, even though it doesn’t feature any Xenomorphs.

The movie Badlands definitely connects to the Alien universe because the powerful Weyland-Yutani corporation plays a significant role. Elle Fanning’s character is actually a synthetic human created by Weyland-Yutani. Instead of a typical ‘versus’ movie where everything just clashes, we wanted to organically blend an element from the Alien world into our story. Weyland-Yutani is a really important part of the film.

Producer Ben Rosenblatt explained that Thia’s involvement helps the film feel connected to the original Alien movies on a deeper, almost spiritual level.

According to the speaker, Trachtenberg expressed a desire for characters that looked human but weren’t actually people, suggesting robots. Dan then pointed out that Weyland-Yutani was a well-known robotics company, leading to a perfect combination of the two ideas.

I was really curious about Arnold Schwarzenegger coming back for another Predator film, and Rosenblatt actually talked about that! It sounds like he addressed whether we might see him reprise his role sometime in the future.

Getting Arnold Schwarzenegger back in a Predator movie is our biggest goal. He’s become a legend because of this franchise, and we’d love to have him return. He and Dan Trachtenberg have talked a few times, and Arnold seems genuinely interested in and supportive of the direction we’re taking the series. We’re optimistic that after the release of Predator: Badlands, we can discuss possibilities and hopefully find a way to include him – it would be fantastic.
