A recent announcement confirms exciting changes are coming to Animal Crossing: New Horizons. A Switch 2 update will revitalize the game and address many frequently requested improvements.

This update isn’t a huge change, so most players won’t need to revisit their starting area. We expect that to change with the next update, though.

Villagers Should Stand Out More In The Next Game

Make Some Of Them Meaner

What kept me from fully enjoying New Horizons was that the villagers didn’t have much personality. Compared to older Animal Crossing games, they felt a bit flat. Previous games had villagers with a wide range of personalities – everything from friendly to grumpy – just like you’d find in many RPGs or life simulation games.

When New Horizons came out, it felt like exactly what people needed, and its optimistic approach really resonated with a lot of players. However, once the initial excitement died down, I didn’t really feel a strong connection with most of the characters on the island.

I’ve completed the main game and even paid off my house, and I’ve continued playing since then, but the villagers still mostly react the same way. The new 3.0 update might change things a little, though it’s unlikely to fundamentally change how the game feels.

Although Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp briefly captured some of the original game’s charm, it’s no longer available. You can still play older Animal Crossing titles, but you’ll need the original gaming consoles to do so.

The Follow-Up Animal Crossing Has A Lot Of Pressure

Ideally, It Marries Old And New Philosophies

What should happen with future installments? Ideally, the next game will build on the success of New Horizons while adding more depth. New Leaf for the 3DS began to establish the current style of Animal Crossing games, and New Horizons really cemented it – making the series feel a bit too predictable.

A new Animal Crossing game would be a great way to begin a new experience. Ideally, the island would be larger, offering more room for both villagers and activities. It would be fantastic to have access to all the fun features right away, instead of unlocking them gradually over time.

It would be great if the new game included many of the convenient features that were added to previous versions over time. Nintendo sometimes takes a while to add these improvements, but players new to the series won’t want to lose them when the new game comes out.

As a huge Animal Crossing fan, I’m really excited about what’s next for the series! With so many of us waiting, I’m confident any new update will be a success, especially with the Switch 2 looking so promising. Honestly, more than anything, I’m hoping they really focus on making it feel full of life and personality – that’s what I love most about Animal Crossing!
