The Witcher Season 4 Is Already Losing Steam on Streaming

Even though it just came out less than a week ago, viewers are already starting to lose interest in Season 4 of the show. This season is the first to star Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia.

According to FlixPatrol, the latest season of The Witcher is losing momentum on Netflix. While it briefly climbed to No. 2 in the U.S. Top 10 TV shows, it has since dropped to No. 4. This decline isn’t limited to the United States; the series is also falling in popularity in countries like Uruguay, Vietnam, and Australia. This is a somewhat disappointing start for the new season, considering The Witcher was once one of Netflix’s biggest hits and has a dedicated fanbase.

Despite a rocky start, the latest season of The Witcher is seeing its ratings improve. When the season premiered on Netflix on October 30th, critics initially gave it a low score, and viewers rated it even lower with a franchise-low 17%. However, after just five days, the critics’ score jumped to 61%, pushing it past the threshold to be considered “fresh” on Rotten Tomatoes. The audience score has also seen a slight increase, from 17% to 20%, though it remains the lowest ever for the series, tied with Season 3.

The Witcher Season 4 Is the First Without Henry Cavill

For its first three seasons, The Witcher starred Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, a monster hunter with magical abilities. Cavill decided to leave the show after season three, announcing on Instagram that he was stepping down from the role. Liam Hemsworth was immediately announced as his replacement. Cavill wasn’t the only actor recast for Season 4; Peter Mullan also departed due to scheduling issues with his work on the F1 series for Apple and Warner Bros.

The rest of the cast from The Witcher is returning, including Anya Chalotra as Yennefer, Freya Allan as Princess Cirilla, Joey Batey as Jaskier, Eamon Farren as Cahir, Anna Shaffer as Triss Merrigold, Mimî M Khayisa as Fringilla, Cassie Clare as Philippa, and Mahesh Jadu as Vilgefortz. Joining them is Laurence Fishburne as the new character, Regis, alongside Liam Hemsworth.

Following the dramatic events of Season Three, Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri are scattered and facing numerous enemies during a widespread war. As they each pursue their own goals, they encounter surprising new allies. Whether they can embrace these newfound connections may determine if they’ll ever be reunited. Season Four of The Witcher is now available on Netflix, along with the previous three seasons. A fifth and final season is planned, but its release date hasn’t been announced yet.
