It seems like popular franchises are always looking for ways to grow beyond their original format, and Netflix’s attempts to adapt anime into live-action haven’t always succeeded. If a spinoff were made from KPop Demon Hunters, it should build on the world established in the movie. While the three main characters could easily lead a spinoff, there’s a surprising character who deserves a bigger role.
Though Reacher and True Detective offer very different kinds of crime thrillers, they both feature detectives who aren’t traditional heroes. True Detective leans heavily into this anti-hero theme, but Reacher also shows its main character, played by Alan Ritchson, frequently bending the rules and operating outside the law to achieve what he believes is right.
The popular boxing film series currently consists of six Rocky movies and three Creed movies. The movie Homefront, released in 2013, is based on Chuck Logan’s novel of the same name. It stars Jason Statham as Phil Broker, a former DEA agent who leaves the agency after a tragic raid. Seeking a quieter life, Broker moves to a small town in Louisiana to be with his teenage daughter. However, trouble finds him when his daughter gets into a fight at school, drawing the attention of a dangerous local criminal.
Andarithio “Andy” Billups, the Chief Engineer on the USS Cerritos – the main ship in the animated series Star Trek: Lower Decks – was originally planned to be the first openly asexual character in the Star Trek universe. His history and where he’s from are revealed in the second season episode, “Where Pleasant Fountains Lie.”
Unlike shows like Oz, Sex and the City, and The Sopranos that generated a lot of hype, Six Feet Under quietly built its success. It didn’t rely on famous actors – instead, it launched the careers of Peter Krause, Michael C. Hall, and Frances Conroy. The show trusted its unique characters and atmosphere, and that gamble paid off, culminating in a series finale often hailed as the greatest ever.
Even with its huge success, the Reacher series hasn’t surpassed its competition with Jack Ryan. The rivalry has always been friendly, but it’s hard to ignore the similarities: both shows are action thrillers on Prime Video, air around the same time, star characters with the same initials, and are based on popular books. It’s a natural comparison that fans enjoy.
According to HBO’s Casey Bloys, Sam Levinson is wrapping up the third season of Euphoria and has devised a compelling way to advance the characters’ storylines by five years. Bloys also confirmed rumors that Levinson has ideas for a possible fourth season.
