Stephen Graham Stars in First Look at ‘A Thousand Blows’ Season 2

The first trailer for Season 2 of A Thousand Blows is here, and it looks intense! Stephen Graham is back as Henry “Sugar” Goodson in this historical boxing drama created by Steven Knight. The new season will stream on Hulu and Disney+ starting January 9, 2026. Picking up a year after the dramatic season one finale, the six-episode season finds Sugar struggling with alcohol, and the characters facing new challenges.

This drama is based on real stories of people struggling to survive in London’s tough East End during the 1880s. A year after previous events, Hezekiah (Malachi Kirby) is broken, and Sugar Goodson (Stephen Graham) is isolated and battling alcoholism. Just when the area seems doomed, Mary Carr (Erin Doherty) returns with her trusted ally, Alice Diamond (Darci Shaw), determined to rebuild her gang and regain control. Mary always has a scheme, and this one is her most dangerous yet, putting everyone she cares about at risk.

The new trailer for season two of A Thousand Blows hints at a story filled with revenge, plotting, and attempts at making things right. All the original characters return, including Malachi Kirby as Hezekiah Moscow and Erin Doherty as Mary Carr. The boxing champion, played by Graham, brings the group together and admits, “I know some of you want me gone, and I understand why. We’re all in danger, so we need to trust each other.” But uniting everyone might be difficult, as Hezekiah makes it clear he’s going his own way: “I’ll fight my battles, and you fight yours.”

Season 2 will also feature returning cast members including James Nelson-Joyce as Edward “Treacle” Goodson, Darci Shaw as Alice Diamond, Hannah Walters as Eliza Moody, Nadia Albina as Verity Ross, Morgan Hilaire as Esme Long, Jemma Carlton as Belle Downer, Caoilfhionn Dunne as Anne Glover, Jason Tobin as Mr. Lao, Susan Lynch as Jane Carr, Daniel Mays as William “Punch” Lewis, Gary Lewis as Jack Mac, Aliyah Odoffin as Victoria Davies, and Robert Glenister as Indigo Jeremy. Joining them this season are Ned Dennehy, known from Peaky Blinders, and Catherine McCormack from Slow Horses, who will play Bull Jeremy and Sophie Lyons, respectively.

The First Season of ‘A Thousand Blows’ Was a Knockout Success

As a big fan of crime dramas, I was really excited for A Thousand Blows – it’s from the same creator as Peaky Blinders, which I absolutely loved! It premiered on Hulu and Disney+ in February, and it didn’t disappoint. Honestly, it was a hit right away, with everyone praising the gripping story, the fantastic historical details, and the incredible acting. The critics seem to agree too – it’s got an 88% score on Rotten Tomatoes, and audiences are loving it with a 77% approval rating. That kind of response definitely suggests we’ll be getting more episodes, which is great news! Even MovieWeb’s Julian Roman called it a ‘stunning period series,’ and I’d have to agree.

A Thousand Blows is a gripping series that follows a diverse group of characters facing racism, sexism, class prejudice, and brutal violence in 1880s East London. Creator Steven Knight once again delivers a powerfully compelling historical drama.
