Bob Odenkirk’s Sequel to His 83% RT Action Thriller Is a Streaming Success

The action thriller starring Bob Odenkirk, known for his roles in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, has become a hit on streaming services. The sequel, featuring Odenkirk as the skilled assassin Hutch Mansell (also known as Nobody), initially benefited from the popularity of the first movie, but is now attracting even more viewers through streaming.

According to FlixPatrol, Nobody 2 is currently the second most popular movie on Amazon’s Prime Video in the United States. It’s been gaining traction, moving up from positions four through six last week. The movie is also the second most popular title on Prime Video in Canada.

As a movie buff, I was checking the iTunes charts and noticed Nobody 2 is doing incredibly well! It’s currently number two in the U.S., but it’s actually the top movie in Canada, Indonesia, the Philippines, and South Africa – pretty impressive reach, right?

Will There Be a Nobody 3 Starring Bob Odenkirk?

It seems likely Universal Pictures would want to make another Nobody movie with Bob Odenkirk, but it’s more complicated than it appears. The first Nobody film, released in 2021, was a surprisingly popular success with both viewers and critics. It received high ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics giving it an 83% score and audiences an even higher 94%.

Audiences loved Bob Odenkirk’s performance as Hutch Mansell, a skilled killer with a family, and many compared the film to the John Wick franchise. The involvement of John Wick veterans David Leitch and Derek Kolstad certainly helped. While there was initial excitement for Nobody 2, it didn’t perform as well at the box office as the first Nobody movie.

Although Nobody 2 was a sequel to the successful film Nobody, it didn’t perform as well at the box office. Nobody earned $57 million worldwide with a $16 million production cost, while Nobody 2 brought in $41 million globally on a $25 million budget.

Timo Tjahjanto, the director of Nobody 2, is already planning a third movie. He envisions it being even grimmer, potentially mirroring the tone of Breaking Bad.

I was talking with Bob Odenkirk about where we could take the story, and I laid out two possibilities. We could really lean into the family aspect of his character’s journey, or we could go full-on, gritty Breaking Bad style. I even pitched him a visual: the movie opening on a desolate desert scene, a trailer park, with Hutch Mansell sitting alone, completely bearded and armed with a shotgun. His family would be gone, leaving him utterly isolated. Bob’s reaction? He thought it was pretty dark, which, honestly, was kind of the point!

Nobody 2 centers around Hutch Mansell and his family’s vacation, which is disrupted by a corrupt theme park owner, a dishonest sheriff, and a dangerous crime boss. Hutch, of course, steps in to resolve the situation and take them all down.
