Looking back, the 1990s were a really important time for anime. Even with all the new stuff coming out now, that decade feels special and really shaped the industry into what it is today. While some anime from the ’90s haven’t aged well, plenty of titles from that era still hold up – and honestly, I think some of them are even better than a lot of what’s popular now.

Even though Matt Murdock assembled a team of vigilantes in season two of Daredevil: Born Again to fight against Mayor Fisk and his forces, The Punisher was noticeably absent. Fortunately, The Punisher: One Last Kill reveals what Frank Castle was doing during the chaos in New York.

Disney+ has released its newest Marvel Cinematic Universe project, The Punisher: One Last Kill, and reviews are starting to come in. The special presentation starring Jon Bernthal currently has an 82% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The trailer for The Punisher: One Last Kill suggests the story will focus on Frank’s emotional and psychological state, showing him haunted by past traumas. However, it feels strange to develop a whole new story with such a short final running time.

Frank is a popular character, but also a controversial one within the superhero world. He’s known for being overly violent and often walks a fine line between being a hero and a villain. He’s a classic anti-hero – he does bad things, believing they’re necessary for the greater good, which often makes his fellow heroes uneasy.

The prequel novel, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, offered a glimpse into the difficult period known as the Dark Days – the first rebellion – and expanded on the origins of the Hunger Games. Since The Hunger Games is set in a future without specific dates, we’ll use the term “After the Dark Days” (ADD) to mark the years in this timeline.

Pierrot, the animation studio famous for high-energy action series like Bleach and Naruto, is trying something new with its Magical Girl Series. Unlike its other shows, this series deliberately avoids battles. Producer Yohei Fukui explained in a recent interview that this ‘no battles’ rule is meant to appeal to viewers who might be tired of constant action in shonen anime.
