Mark Wahlberg will lead the cast in a new version of a Norwegian action movie. He’s been actively working on both acting in and producing various films, such as the recent Play Dirty on Prime Video and the upcoming Family Plan 2.
Mark Wahlberg is staying busy and will soon star in and produce an American remake of the Norwegian thriller Headhunters. Screen Daily reports the film will be an Apple Original Film, marking another collaboration between Wahlberg and the studio after Family Plan 2.
Bill Dubuque, the writer behind films like The Accountant and the Netflix series Ozark, is adapting the screenplay for this new project. Details about when it will be filmed or released haven’t been announced yet.
The original Norwegian film, directed by Morten Tyldum, came out in 2011. It featured Aksel Hennie, Synnøve Macody Lund, and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who is also known for his role in Game of Thrones.
The movie Headhunters is based on Jo Nesbø’s 2008 novel of the same name. It centers around Roger Brown, who leads a secret double life as an art thief to fund his and his wife’s expensive tastes. He attempts to steal a prized painting, but his plans quickly go awry.
The Norwegian film Headhunters was a huge success, earning nearly $19 million despite being made with a budget of just $3.6 million. It’s now the highest-grossing movie ever from Norway. In addition to its financial success, the thriller received several award nominations, including Amanda Awards and a BAFTA for Best Foreign Language Film. It also boasts a 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Mark Wahlberg has been interested in remaking the Norwegian film Headhunters since 2012. He recently mentioned it again in an interview with Sienne Leone when asked about potential remakes.
Mark Wahlberg’s long-awaited action movie is starting to move forward, though it’s still in the very early stages of development. There’s also a question about the title, as Kevin Costner is currently working on a similar surf thriller with the same name. We can expect to learn more about Headhunters in the next few months.
