Fans are discussing whether Netflix’s new Thai zombie series, Zomvivor, also qualifies as a BL (Boys’ Love) series, a genre focused on romantic relationships between men. Zomvivor centers on a diverse group of people trying to survive a zombie outbreak at a university, a premise similar to the popular Korean series All of Us Are Dead, which has been renewed for a second season.
The show boasts a talented cast, including popular Thai actors known for their work in BL (boys’ love) series, like NuNew Chawarin Perdipiriyawong and Zee Pruk Panich. This led many fans to believe the series would also be BL, but evidence suggests it isn’t.
Is Zomvivor Series BL (Boys’ Love)?

Netflix’s Zomvivor includes well-known actors from Thai BL (boys’ love) series, but it isn’t a BL show itself. Although the series contains BL themes, characters, and moments, the central story focuses on a zombie outbreak and the characters’ struggle to survive, with romantic relationships taking a backseat.
If you’re new to it, Zomvivor is about two groups of people battling it out inside a university after a zombie outbreak. These groups are full of mistrust and shifting loyalties. Among the survivors are San and Non, who were close friends even before the zombies appeared. San is a hesitant leader, while Non focuses on saving as many people as possible. Another key survivor is Thi, an art student determined to figure out how to defeat the zombies.
Okay, so I was rewatching Zomvivor – specifically around the 22:30 mark in Episode 2 – and there’s this really interesting moment with Thi and Non. They’re taking a breather, trying to figure out how to deal with all the zombies, and you can totally see Non has a thing for Thi. But he’s super close with San, and it’s obvious that’s stopping him from saying anything about how he feels. It’s a little heartbreaking, honestly, seeing him struggle with that!

Zomvivor also established that Non has some deep attachment toward San.
San and Non became even closer as they battled zombies and tried to survive the apocalypse. Their romantic connection reached a high point in Episode 5 of Zomvivor around the 11:37 mark, when San began to panic during a chaotic moment. Non immediately comforted him with a hug, and this act of support made it clear he had strong feelings for San.

We got a flashback showing Non and San’s history – it turns out Non was already looking out for San even before everything went crazy, like one time he took care of a really drunk San. Then, back in the present, things got seriously charged between them – they almost kissed! Honestly, you could feel all the unresolved feelings. But just as it was happening, Thorn showed up and totally ruined the moment.

In the sixth episode of Zomvivor, around the 55:17 mark, San boosted Non’s confidence by saying their plan would succeed. This support gave Non the courage to make a tough decision in the final moments.

Although Zomvivor showed a fluctuating connection between the characters San and Non, the show focused more on the intense battle for survival against the zombies in this Thai thriller.
How Non’s Feelings for San Led to His Ultimate Sacrifice

Throughout the game Zomvivor, Non has avoided making tough decisions and feels frustrated trying to establish himself as an individual, separate from his sister Ning. He’s also realizing he has romantic feelings for San.
In the final episode, “The Chosen One,” the remaining survivors discovered that the alpha zombie, Aunty Jit, was the leader and something of a mother figure to the infected. They captured her hoping to learn more about the zombies, but predictably, things went wrong when Jean acted without waiting for a plan.
I was so relieved when I learned the survivors finally made it to higher ground – that’s what allowed the rescue team to spot them! And incredibly, Dr. Wiroj, Non and Ning’s father, was on that team. It broke my heart to hear he was solely focused on finding his kids, but Non, being the person he is, had a different agenda entirely. It was a tense moment, to say the least!
Driven by his determination to protect San and their friends, Non bravely chose to sacrifice himself. He intentionally exposed himself to Aunty Jit’s blood, knowing it would transform him into a zombie.
Ultimately, Zomvivor revealed that San was the main reason Non made his choice, but this came with a terrible price. San was captured by the very survivors he’d been trying to help, and he lost his life and freedom – all so they could learn how the zombies behaved.
