Monsters: Unchained is already getting a lot of praise as a top ride at Universal’s Epic Universe, and guests appreciate how quickly the line moves. However, it doesn’t always run, and some visitors were frustrated earlier this week when it was temporarily closed. While they expressed their disappointment, I don’t completely share that view.

This week, the Monsters: Unchained ride at Epic temporarily closed, which is disappointing since the park is new and doesn’t have many major attractions yet. To entertain guests while the ride was fixed, Universal set up a cornhole game outside the entrance, as reported by Coaster101 on X (formerly Twitter). It was an unexpected way to handle the downtime!

Many theme park fans were upset by this, especially those who were excited about the ride. Here are a few examples of how people reacted to the original post.

It was a funny joke that people were pretending Ygor had won, and I would have loved to see that character from the old Universal movies actually playing bean bag toss. Honestly, though, it seems like a lot of negativity over what was probably just a nice, friendly message for visitors to the park.

It’s frustratingly common to see a ride temporarily closed and a line of park employees repeatedly answering the same question: “When will the ride reopen?” Often, it’s not clear a ride is out of service until you reach the entrance, and even the ride operators usually don’t have much information about how long the repair will take.

After you’ve paid admission, the best approach is to just enjoy whatever activities you can find. Seeing things like cornhole set up feels like a sign the park is slowing down and won’t be offering much new anytime soon. But honestly, my husband and I always end up playing if it’s there! I really wish theme parks had more simple, free games like that. It’s a nice way to relax, have some fun, and take a break between rides without spending extra money.

I’ve always loved Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen, and one of the things that really stands out is how they have a nice green area with free games. It’s awesome to be able to play things like ring toss between the bigger rides without having to spend more money. Honestly, it feels like you’re getting more for your money, which is great considering how expensive theme parks are getting! I really wish other parks would do something similar and create a dedicated space for free family fun.

That’s a pretty good wait time, especially compared to the 60-minute wait for Mario Kart Bowser’s Challenge and the 120-minute wait for Harry Potter and the Battle of the Ministry. With Halloween weekend coming up, I hope everyone who wants to can experience this fun ride – it’s definitely worth it!
