Jim Carrey has starred in many famous movies, and now one of his holiday classics is becoming popular on streaming services as it approaches its 25th anniversary.

Just in time for the holidays, the 2000 film How the Grinch Stole Christmas has become a top ten movie on Prime Video in the United States, according to FlixPatrol. Currently, it’s ranked at number five, beating out popular titles like The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

The classic Christmas movie has recently become popular, moving between the ninth and fifth spots on the charts even though most people are choosing Halloween-themed content.

Ron Howard directed How the Grinch Stole Christmas, a film based on the classic Dr. Seuss children’s book of the same name, first published in 1957. This wasn’t the first time the story had been adapted – a TV special aired in 1966. Jim Carrey starred as the Grinch, and he was joined by a supporting cast including Jeffrey Tambor, Christine Baranski, Taylor Momsen, Molly Shannon, and Billy Irwin, who played the key characters in Whoville.

I remember when How the Grinch Stole Christmas came out on November 17, 2000. Honestly, it didn’t get the greatest reviews at first. As of today, Rotten Tomatoes shows it with a pretty low 49% score based on over 140 critic reviews. It’s funny because it’s become a bit of a cult classic, but even audiences only give it a 59% rating! Despite all the lukewarm reactions, the movie was a huge financial success, earning over $347 million worldwide on a $123 million budget – definitely a profitable venture.

Jim Carrey is known for his comedic role as Doctor Robotnik in the Sonic the Hedgehog movies, but he might soon be taking on a new, animated character. Reports indicate he’s in discussions with Warner Bros. Pictures for a role in a potential The Jetsons movie. Additionally, Colin Trevorrow, who directed Jurassic World: Dominion, is reportedly in talks to direct and co-write the script for the film, working with Joe Epstein.

To celebrate its 25th anniversary on November 17th, the classic film How the Grinch Stole Christmas will be shown in theaters again starting December 12th, courtesy of Universal Pictures.
