The latest Stranger Things trailer takes us back to fall 1987. Hawkins has been taken over by the military and is under quarantine, as a huge tear to the Upside Down is releasing monsters. Mike Wheeler explains their goal: they have to find Vecna and finally stop him.

Vecna suddenly appears at the ruins of a military base, facing a defenseless Will Byers. He lifts Will into the air and chillingly states, “You are going to help me… one… last… time.” This scene strongly hints that Will’s history with the Upside Down will be key to Vecna’s ultimate plan, and will likely lead to a dangerous battle for everyone involved.

The recently released trailer only shows a small part of the danger that’s coming in the final season of the show, according to the Duffer Brothers. When asked if major characters might die, Ross Duffer didn’t give a direct answer, but he did say the risks are much greater this season. He told Entertainment Weekly, “The stakes are higher and it’s more dangerous than ever before.”

The creators of Stranger Things have described the new season as intensely harsh and violent. They emphasized that the stakes are higher than ever before as the story moves toward its conclusion. While there will be shocking moments, including deaths, they assured viewers that these events will feel meaningful and justified, not simply used for sensationalism.

Since there won’t be a Season 6 of Stranger Things, the writers appear to be thoughtfully planning what happens to each character to provide a satisfying conclusion to the overall story.
