Stranger Things Bosses Explain Why Vecna Looks So Different

The creators of Stranger Things, Matt and Ross Duffer, have given fans a preview of what to expect from Vecna in Season 5. Jamie Campbell Bower will reprise his role as the villain, and the Duffer brothers promise he’ll be even more frightening. They’ve also explained the story behind Vecna’s disturbing appearance as the show heads towards its conclusion.

Why Vecna has a different look in Stranger Things Season 5 explained

As a huge Stranger Things fan, I was fascinated to hear from the Duffer brothers about Vecna’s look in the final season. Apparently, the new trailer gives you a peek at Jamie Campbell Bower’s character, and he seems even more powerful as he faces off against Noah Schnapp’s Will Byers. It’s going to be intense!

The creators of the show promise Vecna will be even more frightening in the new season. Matt Duffer explained they specifically aimed to make him scarier, and that he’ll expand his attacks beyond people’s minds into the real world. This meant increasing the scope of his powers, as much of the previous season focused on psychological torment. (Source: Entertainment Weekly)

Ross Duffer explained that the injuries Vecna sustained in Season 4—being burned, shot, and falling from a window—have drastically changed him. He’s essentially rebuilt himself, losing almost all traces of his human form and becoming more connected to the Upside Down. Any remaining humanity within him is now very faint.

The Duffer Brothers hinted that viewers will witness the full scope of Vecna’s abilities in the next season. The final season will also explore Vecna’s past, sharing previously unknown details about how he came to be.

The fifth and final season of Stranger Things will be released in three volumes. The first part arrives on November 26th, with the second coming on December 25th and the third on December 31st.
