The newest book in Anne Rice’s interconnected series of novels is a big success. Following the popularity of Interview with the Vampire and Mayfair Witches, this latest installment continues the strong performance of the franchise.
The third spin-off series launched on October 26th with the first two episodes available at once. It quickly gained a following and was a hit right from the start. After becoming popular on AMC, Talamasca: The Secret Order is now also performing well on demand, according to FlixPatrol.
Since October 28th, Talamasca: The Secret Order has been the most popular show on AMC+. It also quickly gained traction on other platforms, debuting at number 10 on Amazon VOD on October 30th. The show premiered on iTunes on October 28th at number six and climbed to number four shortly after.
Talamasca: The Secret Order seamlessly integrates into the broader Immortal Universe while establishing its own unique identity. Although it’s rooted in fantasy, featuring creatures like vampires that the Talamasca organization monitors, the show also incorporates elements of mystery and a character’s journey to adulthood. Unlike Interview With the Vampire and Mayfair Witches, this series isn’t based on a single novel, but draws inspiration from various works by Anne Rice.
The series Talamasca: The Secret Order has been well-received, currently holding a 62% critic score based on 21 reviews. This places it between the ratings of Interview With the Vampire, which boasts a very high 99% critic score and 71% audience score, and Mayfair Witches, which has a 59% critic score and 54% audience score.
Anne Rice’s Immortal Universe Might Expand Further
Currently, the series consists of just three episodes. Nicholas Denton, the actor who plays Guy, explained that while the show is taking some creative liberties, it will also include hidden references for dedicated fans. He said, “We were debating whether certain elements would fit with the established Mayfair or Interview storylines. It’s important to us to honor Anne Rice’s work, but also to make the universe accessible to new viewers and explore its many possibilities.”
Mark Johnson, the executive producer in charge of the Anne Rice’s Immortal Universe series, hinted in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that they have several potential new shows planned within that world. He confirmed they have “so many good ideas” and praised Rice as a remarkably forward-thinking writer, especially considering the time she was writing.
I’m really excited about what’s coming next with the Anne Rice adaptations! While there’s been no official announcement yet, the creator hinted that a true fan could probably guess which stories they’ll tackle next. He’s keeping the exact titles under wraps for now, but it’s fun to speculate!
New episodes of Talamasca: The Secret Order premiere every Sunday on AMC and AMC+.
