PBS Masterpiece announced that its new period drama, The Forsytes, will premiere in the US soon. Based on the novels by Nobel Prize winner John Galsworthy, the series explores themes of love, family, social status, and wealth in Victorian England. It centers on the Forsyte family and follows the younger generation as they prepare to inherit the family business and fortune.
This new version of The Forsyte Saga isn’t just a retread of the original story. While the 2002 adaptation with Damien Lewis and Gina McKee closely followed Galsworthy’s novel, this series on Channel 5 and PBS Masterpiece goes back in time, showing what life was like for the Forsyte family before the events we know, and offering a fresh look at their complicated lives.
The first two episodes of The Forsytes have already aired on Channel 5 in the UK, with new episodes continuing weekly through November 24th. American viewers will be able to watch the series starting Sunday, March 22, 2026, when it premieres on PBS Masterpiece.
PBS Masterpiece will be adding The Forsytes to its lineup of British period dramas in early 2026. Fans can also look forward to the sixth seasons of returning favorites Miss Scarlet and All Creatures Great & Small.
Fans will be happy to hear that The Forsytes is coming back for a second season! Filming is currently happening in Bristol. The show’s writer, Debbie Horsfield, also wrote the popular PBS drama Poldark, and she’s responsible for all six episodes of The Forsytes’ first season.

British television fans will likely spot some well-known actors, including Francesca Annis (from Flesh and Blood) as Ann Forsyte, Millie Gibson (Doctor Who) as Irene Heron, Eleanor Tomlinson (Poldark) as Louisa Byrne, and Tom Durant-Pritchard (Miss Scarlet) as Monty Dartie.
The series also features a strong supporting cast, including Stephen Moyer (known for True Blood) as Jolyon Forsyte Senior, Danny Griffin (Fate: The Winx Saga) as Jo Forsyte Junior, Tuppence Middleton (Downton Abbey: A New Era) as Frances Forsyte, Jack Davenport (The Morning Show) as James Forsyte, and Joshua Orpin (Titans) as Soames Forsyte.
