The Boys’ Gen V Spinoff Confirms A Dark Truth About Billy Butcher

Ahead of the fifth season of The Boys, Prime Video has revealed a disturbing fact about Karl Urban’s character, Billy Butcher.

Throughout The Boys, some characters, such as Starlight and A-Train, have shown growth and become more heroic. However, others, like Butcher, have become increasingly flawed. Butcher’s journey is particularly tragic because he initially seemed capable of being a true hero. But after losing faith in superheroes, he became consumed by a mission to destroy them all.

As The Boys season 4 neared its conclusion, Butcher truly gave in to his darker impulses, unlocking his latent superpowers. Following the events of Gen V season 2, it’s clear his path will only become more grim, and we’ll likely learn some unsettling truths about him and his abilities.

Marie’s Power Up In Gen V Season 2’s Finale Is Reminder Of How Strong Billy Butcher Might Be

I was fascinated to learn that, according to Gen V season 2, Marie and Homelander are the only two supes created by Project Odessa. It really sets Marie apart from everyone else in the world of The Boys – she’s not just another powered individual. Like Homelander, she’s on a whole other level of strength and resilience, far surpassing most supes we’ve seen.

Despite Marie’s attempts to hide it, the ending of Gen V season 2 shows just how powerful she can be. But a closer look at how her abilities evolved in the finale reveals she’s only now reached the same strength level as Victoria Newman. Before this, she needed to injure herself and use her own blood to launch attacks.

Near the end of Gen V season 2, Marie Moreau discovers she can control people’s blood, even causing their heads to explode. Because her powers seem to be limited by Victoria Newman’s strength, it’s possible Billy Butcher could win in a fight against her.

In the season 4 finale of The Boys, Billy Butcher quickly defeated Victoria Newman before she had a chance to react. Because of this, it doesn’t seem like Marie, as she is now, would stand much of a chance against him in a fight.

A Supe-Powered Billy Butcher May Be Far More Dangerous In The Boys Season 5 Than Most Viewers Expect

Season 4 of The Boys only briefly showed off Billy Butcher’s new superpowers, making it difficult to judge where he stands compared to other supes. But even without powers, Butcher is a highly skilled fighter. He proved that by going head-to-head with Homelander, even while using Temp-V during their fight at Herogasm.

As a huge fan of The Boys, I’ve been thinking about Billy Butcher‘s arc, and everything points to him potentially being a much more powerful supe than we realize. While Marie’s powers could definitely grow, it’s Butcher’s intense anger and pure hatred of supes that I think will really push him. Honestly, I have a feeling he’s going to become one of the most formidable – and terrifying – villains we’ve seen in season 5.
