Fans of the Terminator movies will love a Christopher Nolan film now coming to Netflix. The streaming service will add Nolan’s 2020 science fiction movie to its selection next month.
Starting November 1st, you’ll be able to watch Christopher Nolan’s Tenet on Netflix in the United States. The film stars John David Washington as a former CIA agent who investigates strange objects that seem to travel through time, all connected to a potential future attack. Like the classic film The Terminator, Tenet uses time travel as a key part of its story, focusing on preventing a future disaster. However, critics weren’t as enthusiastic about Tenet as they were about The Terminator; it currently has a 70% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, while The Terminator boasts a perfect 100%.
Originally planned for an earlier release, Tenet premiered in August 2020 as one of the first big Hollywood movies to come out after theaters had closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. While director Christopher Nolan hoped the film would encourage people to return to cinemas, it didn’t perform as well as expected, though it still earned $365 million worldwide. Tenet proved to be Nolan’s last project with Warner Bros.; he later ended his relationship with the studio because of their decision to release movies both in theaters and on their streaming service, HBO Max.
What’s Christopher Nolan’s Next Movie?
Following his film Tenet, director Christopher Nolan released Oppenheimer, a lengthy and intense biographical movie about J. Robert Oppenheimer and his work on the Manhattan Project. Cillian Murphy starred as Oppenheimer in the film, which Universal Pictures released in 2023 on the same day as Warner Bros.’ Barbie. Although the two films appealed to very different audiences, both were hugely popular, leading to a surprising cultural trend called Barbenheimer and strong opening weekend box office numbers for both.
Now that Oppenheimer has broken box office records – becoming the highest-grossing biographical film ever – everyone is looking forward to director Christopher Nolan’s next project. He’s adapting the classic ancient Greek poem by Homer, The Odyssey, which tells the story of King Odysseus and his dangerous ten-year journey home after the Trojan War. Matt Damon will star as Odysseus, and Tom Holland will play his son, Telemachus, in this epic film.
Like many of Christopher Nolan’s films, his adaptation of The Odyssey features a star-studded cast, including several well-known actors in smaller roles. Confirmed cast members include Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, Benny Safdie, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Jon Bernthal, John Leguizamo, Elliot Page, Himesh Patel, Samantha Morton, Mia Goth, Corey Hawkins, Cosmo Jarvis, and Ryan Hurst. Bill Irwin, Jesse Garcia, Will Yun Lee, Rafi Gavron, Shiloh Fernandez, Nick E. Tarabay, Jimmy Gonzales, Maurice Compte, Michael Vlamis, Iddo Goldberg, and Josh Stewart are also part of the film’s ensemble.
Tenet arrives on Netflix on Nov. 1, while The Odyssey will hit theaters on July 17, 2026.
