Mondo is a well-known brand among collectors, recognized for its high-quality items. They create collectibles based on popular franchises like Marvel, DC Comics, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Godzilla, offering a wide range of products including detailed figures, posters, and vinyl records.
At New York Comic Con, TopMob interviewed Hector Arce, a director at Mondo, about their upcoming 1/6 scale figures based on Spider-Man: The Animated Series. He hinted at what character they might release next.
Arce highlighted that Mondo possesses a Doctor Doom vinyl figure, a character who appears in Spider-Man: The Animated Series. He suggested Doom could potentially be produced as a figure in the future. When discussing the new Lizard figure, he also mentioned Green Goblin and Hobgoblin as characters the company is interested in creating.
More of our conversation with Mondo’s Hector Arce can be read below.
What Mondo 1/6 Scale Figure Could Be Next From Spider-Man: The Animated Series?

The Series Has So Many Options to Choose From.
- TopMob: “New York Comic Con brings Daredevil to the party. Can you talk about bringing him to life?”
Hector Arce mentioned the Marvel line, explaining that the Daredevil figure is available as an online exclusive through the Mondo shop, specifically for New York Comic Con. He also noted that as they develop the 1/6 scale Marvel animated figures, Spider-Man will feature many guest stars from the 90s animated series.
Everyone at Mondo is really excited about this version of Daredevil, particularly the use of cell shading. It has a distinctive visual style, similar to the look of Venom in that series, with the blue and red lines. We’re hoping this inspires us to explore other characters and potentially include them as guest stars in future projects.
- TopMob: “How do you approach the comic style when creating these 1/6 figures?”
Surprisingly, everything you see is hand-painted. We create our initial designs – that comic book, cell-shaded look – by having an artist meticulously paint each prototype. He actually hand-draws all those black and blue lines. I personally painted the designs for Clayface, Daredevil, and others. Then, we experiment with different techniques to achieve the final result.
- TopMob: “Well, like, okay, so we did Daredevil now, and you’re mentioning all these guest stars. So who’s next?”
We do have a Doctor Doom vinyl figure, and since Doctor Doom is actually in ‘Spider-Man: The Animated Series,’ he’s definitely a possibility for future projects.
- TopMob: “You also announced Lizard recently, right?”
I think Lizard is a really important character, almost like one of the very first episodes or storylines in that series. He’s central to it, so we definitely needed to include him. And, as the story progresses, we’d really like to explore characters like Green Goblin and Hobgoblin too.
The discussion shifted to DC Comics, specifically Mondo’s highly detailed 1/6 scale Clayface figure based on Batman: The Animated Series. It comes with a huge number of included accessories.
- TopMob: “I love all these accessories. What’s the mentality in how many accessories you include?”
My approach to each performance is to act as if it’s our only opportunity. If this is the only chance for our team and me to perform, then let’s go all out and create the best possible show we’ve always envisioned. We can always simplify things later if necessary.
As a huge fan, I was so excited when they designed this Clayface figure! They really captured those classic moments – like when he turns into a puddle! It was a brilliant idea to include interchangeable heads for that. And they didn’t forget the details – like Batman getting pulled into him, just like in one of his early appearances, and all the crazy hand transformations Clayface does. Seriously, this figure comes with so many accessories, it’s incredible!
Mondo recently collaborated with DC Studios to create a vinyl record featuring the fictional band Mighty Crab Joys from the movie Superman. It’s a real, playable record featuring the band’s song.
We collaborated with DC Studios and James Gunn to officially release the song “Mighty Crab Joys,” which you might have heard playing in the background of the Superman movie.
