The popular Harry Potter series is getting a fresh start as a TV show on HBO. Instead of making new movies, the books will be completely adapted for a new audience. It’s been ten years since the last film, and now the story of Harry Potter will be retold, bringing all the beloved characters and magical world to a new generation.
Arabella Stanton, who will play Hermione Granger in the upcoming TV reboot, recently discussed joining the series in an interview with the Associated Press. When asked about taking on the iconic role, Stanton jokingly said she’s under strict orders not to reveal too much. However, she confirmed filming has begun and expressed optimism that fans will love the new adaptation, saying, “It’s great at the moment. I really hope fans enjoy it.”
The actor revealed she first discovered the Harry Potter books around age eight, reading them all and becoming a huge fan. She’s now going to bring the character Hermione Granger to life again, voicing her in the new Audible audiobooks of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, The Chamber of Secrets, and The Prisoner of Azkaban.
On May 27, 2025, Emma Stanton was chosen to play Hermione Granger, joining Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. The HBO series cast them after a large audition process involving over 32,000 actors.
The upcoming Harry Potter series will star John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid. The show is planned to run for ten years, and the first season will have eight episodes.
The series intends to fully adapt each book, exploring aspects the Harry Potter films from 2001 to 2011 didn’t cover. Filming for the first season began in England on July 14, 2025, and is currently underway.
A new Harry Potter TV series will premiere on HBO in 2026. The specific date will be announced soon.
