There’s been a lot of speculation about a hidden movie James Gunn is working on for DC, and a recently filed trademark might finally reveal its name. Gunn has hinted at this project for months, calling it “something big” for the new DC franchise, but details have been scarce. It seems he couldn’t keep the project a secret much longer.
A recent trademark filing suggests the title of James Gunn’s upcoming DC movie is Salvation Run. DC Studios registered the name, listing it for various products including films, comic books, clothing, toys, and entertainment services.

In addition to a secret TV series James Gunn is developing – which he’s described as his most beloved project within the franchise – a surprise DC Universe film is also in the works.
I recently discovered that Salvation Run isn’t just a cool concept, it’s actually a seven-issue comic book series from the early 2000s! It was written by Bill Willingham and Lilah Sturges, and it’s about a bunch of DC’s most famous villains who get stuck on this massive, planet-sized prison and have to fight to survive. It’s a really interesting take on those characters.
Everyone’s been buzzing about where DC might take the Peacemaker story, especially after the finale of Season 2. Let me tell you, that ending left us with a serious cliffhanger! John Cena’s Peacemaker found himself completely stranded on this incredibly harsh, alien prison planet called Salvation, thanks to a cold-hearted move by Rick Flag, played brilliantly by Frank Grillo.
Is the Salvation Run Movie Real?
Although it hasn’t been officially confirmed, James Gunn and the team at DC Studios appear to be developing a Salvation Run movie.
Since introducing the concept of ‘Salvation’ in the Peacemaker Season 2 finale, the head of the DC Universe, James Gunn, has often mentioned a specific comic book series as inspiration. Gunn has shared on social media that he’s always planned for the DCU to build towards this ‘Salvation’ storyline in its early years, possibly leading to a major concluding event for this initial phase of the franchise.
While the upcoming project will involve the DC Comics prison planet, it won’t be a straight retelling of the Salvation Run comic book series. Although that series featured popular villains like the Joker, Lex Luthor, and Vandal Savage, James Gunn has indicated these characters aren’t necessarily confirmed to appear in the new adaptation.
It seems James Gunn and the team at DC Studios are planning to adapt the 2007 comic book storyline for a new project.
Sometimes, trademark filings don’t lead anywhere – studios do them just to protect themselves. But because certain parts of the Salvation Run storyline have been highlighted within the franchise, this filing feels like it could signal something bigger is happening.
