NCIS: Tony And Ziva’s Boris Actor Talks About That Big Season 1 Finale Twist And How He Felt About It

Warning: SPOILERS for the NCIS: Tony & Ziva episode “Full Circle” are ahead!

Cote de Pablo got what she hoped for: the first season of NCIS: Tony & Ziva will air in 2025 and ends with a positive outcome for its main characters. After resolving the issues with Jonah Markham and clearing their names, Tony DiNozzo and Ziva David rekindled their romance in the finale, “Full Circle,” with their daughter Tali’s support. However, the season didn’t have a happy ending for Boris Peskov, and actor Maximilian Osinski (known from Ted Lasso) recently discussed his reaction to the character’s fate with TopMob.

Okay, so in the first half of NCIS: Tony & Ziva Season 1, we were shown this seemingly perfect couple, Boris and Fruzsi, all loved up and eventually getting hitched in an episode called “Wedding Crashers.” Then, Fruzsi mysteriously vanished for the rest of the season, supposedly to prepare for their honeymoon… or so Boris believed. It was a real gut punch when, towards the end of “Full Circle,” he confessed to Tony and Claudette, through tears, that “Fruzsi” wasn’t who she said she was – she was a con artist who’d cleaned him out and run. I had to know when Osinski first found out about this heartbreaking betrayal, and he started by telling me…

I was just as surprised as everyone else when the script came out. The writers usually know these things before anyone, so it was unexpected, but it did make sense when I thought about it. I understood the reasoning behind the events – Boris became obsessed and didn’t notice the warning signs.

Boris showed Tony and Claudette a video Fruzsi sent after Jonah’s arrest. At first, it seemed like she was simply leaving him – she’d filmed it in front of a private jet. However, Boris explained that she had taken everything from him and vanished completely. Because ‘Fruzsi’ wasn’t her real name, Boris realized their marriage wasn’t legally valid.

This plot twist surprised me, and Max Osinski had a similar reaction when he first read the script for NCIS: Tony & Ziva. But after some thought, he realized there had been clues all along hinting that Fruzsi was hiding something in the Paramount+ series. He went on to explain:

Honestly, as a fan, I’m really intrigued by this character. She doesn’t just say she loves Boris, she builds him up – telling him he’s a poet, a genius, and deserves the best. It’s intense! And I think that’s a really clever dynamic. When someone showers you with that kind of praise, especially when you’re already feeling good, it’s easy to miss red flags. Your friends and family might see things you don’t. I’m so curious to see how Boris handles this in Season 2. Will he actively search for her, or will he try moving on with another dating app? It’s going to be a fun twist, I can feel it!

More on NCIS: Tony & Ziva

I really enjoyed the NCIS episode with Tony and Ziva chasing a killer robot dog, but I was surprised to learn how they actually filmed that scene!

Michael Weatherly playfully suggested a future for ‘NCIS’ set in a retirement home, but many fans, myself included, would happily watch Tony and Ziva in any show, anywhere!

Looking back, Fruzsi definitely complimented Boris a bit too much. He was talented and a good person, but her excessive praise seemed over the top. We now realize she was just trying to win his trust, and it ultimately led to serious consequences for him. Luckily, Tony offered Boris a job at his security firm, so he isn’t starting completely over. It also seems like Boris will remain close to Tony, Ziva, and Claudette, which is great because he’ll still have people to rely on.

I’m really hoping we get a second season of NCIS: Tony & Ziva! I’m so invested in Boris Peskov’s story, and I’d love to see what happens next with him – whether he finds “Fruzsi” or not. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that they bring Maximilian Osinski back if the show is renewed, so we can finally see where Boris’s life goes next.
