Be warned, spoilers follow for Gen V season 2, episode 8! Eric Kripke, the showrunner of The Boys, has revealed how the finale of Gen V season 2 sets up events for the fifth season of The Boys. The Gen V season 2 finale concluded with Marie and her group reconnecting with Starlight, who invited them to join her fight against Homelander and Vought, alongside A-Train and potentially other superheroes.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Eric Kripke, an executive producer on Gen V, explained how the show’s second season will connect to the fifth and final season of The Boys. He shared that characters introduced in Gen V, including Marie and her fellow students at Godolkin University, will play a role in the events of The Boys’ final season. However, Kripke assured fans that watching Gen V won’t be necessary to understand the main show.
The recent season finale was important because it sets up the next season, season five, where Starlight leads a growing resistance, and A-Train plays a key role. They’re trying to fight back against Homelander and his increasingly oppressive rule. However, we’re careful to keep The Boys and Gen V as separate stories. While characters from each show help each other, you can enjoy either show without watching the other. That said, watching both shows together definitely enhances the experience.
Kripke confirmed plans for a third season of Gen V. He also mentioned that the ending of The Boys will allow Marie and her fellow Gen V characters to potentially return in the future, but whether the show gets renewed will depend on how many people watch it on Prime Video.
We haven’t wrapped up Gen V in season five of The Boys. We left things open so we can continue the story if we get the chance. Whether we get another season depends on how well the show performs and if enough people watch it. Ultimately, Amazon needs to decide if they want to renew us.
The show’s executive producer hinted at the number of opponents Homelander will battle in the final season, emphasizing how challenging it will be for them, even with a large group fighting against him.
A lot of people want to confront him, and Butcher is leading the charge. Others, like Stan Edgar, Marie, Annie, and Huey, are also trying to stop him, but they’re facing overwhelming odds. The entire country seems to idolize Homelander, and there are hundreds of superheroes with authority over the police in every town. It’s a real underground resistance movement fighting against a tyrannical government, a situation unlike anything else happening globally.
As a huge fan of both The Boys and Gen V, it sounds like the Gen V crew is going to be really important in how The Boys eventually wraps up, even if they aren’t the main focus the whole time. It makes total sense, though, considering how connected the shows already are – like how the Supe virus from Gen V is a huge part of what’s happening in The Boys season 4. It feels like everything’s building to a big crossover!
This means season 5 of The Boys will need to explain what happened with Sam and Cate since we last saw them. Although they seemed to be turning their lives around at the end of Gen V season 2, they were last shown kidnapping Frenchie and Kimiko, and that situation needs to be addressed.
Kripke’s statements raise questions about how closely the story of Gen V will tie into season 5 of The Boys. Because Sage worked with Godolkin before he died, it could create conflict between her and Homelander, depending on how connected the two shows become. However, a strong connection might be difficult for viewers to follow if they haven’t watched both series.
Despite everything, it looks like season 5 of The Boys will be a satisfying conclusion to the main story, while still allowing for potential future adventures with the characters from Gen V. Although Gen V season 3 isn’t officially confirmed yet, it’s good to know that the cliffhanger at the end of season 2 will be addressed, regardless of what happens with the spinoff.
The Boys season 5 arrives on Prime Video in 2026.
