“Who Is Going To Throw the First Punch?”: Icon’s Casting in Taylor Sheridan Crime Series Made Sylvester Stallone Fear for His Tog Dog Status

Sylvester Stallone doesn’t strike most people as someone easily frightened or bullied. However, he was worried when he learned another famous actor would be joining his show with Taylor Sheridan. That actor turned out to be , but Stallone’s concerns about being overshadowed in the mafia-themed series proved to be unnecessary.

I’m a huge fan of Taylor Sheridan’s Tulsa King, and even though some reviews haven’t been as glowing lately, it’s still doing really well on Paramount+. I was thrilled to hear they’ve already renewed it for a fourth season, and now we’re getting a spinoff called NOLA King! Apparently, Sylvester Stallone is going to be leading the new series, and he recently talked to People magazine about how they made it work – even though some people might have thought casting him would be a bit strange at first. He explained how it all came together, and I can’t wait to see it!

I immediately sensed a tough confrontation was brewing – a real showdown. It felt like we were boxers facing off, waiting to see who would make the first move. It was definitely nerve-wracking dealing with such strong competitors. Luckily, things are going smoothly now. We’re working together really well, and we could even have our own show – maybe something called ‘Tulsa King and Buddy’!

Taylor Sheridan Cannot Stop Making Spinoffs

Paramount+

Taylor Sheridan is currently the biggest star on Paramount+, overshadowing shows like Tulsa King and NOLA King. While only one of his shows is currently in the U.S. streaming Top 10, his shows still dominate the global charts. Tulsa King is the most popular show worldwide, followed by Yellowstone in third and Lioness in sixth, with other Sheridan series regularly appearing in the top ten.

Now that the original series, Yellowstone, has concluded, its universe continues to grow with several spin-offs – and even spin-offs of those! Shows like The Dutton Ranch, Y: Marshals, The Madison, 6666, and 1944 are all in the works, with The Dutton Ranch and Y: Marshals progressing the fastest. Now, Taylor Sheridan seems to be applying this same approach to his other shows, starting with Tulsa King, which is getting its own spin-off set in a new location.

Following his appearances on Tulsa King, Russell Lee Washington Jr.’s character will be the central focus of NOLA King. The new show will explore what happens after he leaves Tulsa to take control of a criminal organization in New Orleans. Here’s a brief description of the show’s premise:

NOLA King centers on Russell Lee Washington Jr. (Jackson). After spending ten years in prison, he becomes friends with Dwight Manfredi (Stallone). The New York Renzetti crime family then sends Russell to Tulsa with the mission of killing Dwight. However, inspired by Dwight’s work and the idea of a fresh start, Russell returns to his hometown of New Orleans – a place he left 42 years prior – hoping to reconnect with loved ones and regain control of the city. This decision angers his former bosses in New York and puts him at risk from enemies he left behind in New Orleans, including both criminals and law enforcement.

Production on NOLA King is slated to start in early 2026, potentially allowing the show to premiere before the year is over.
