As a big DC fan, I noticed something interesting. After the *Peacemaker* Season 2 finale, which, honestly, left a lot of us feeling a little down about where they left Christopher Smith’s story, DC actually *removed* a character from an image on their official social media! It seems they were responding to the fan reaction – a lot of us weren’t thrilled with that ending, even though the finale did hint at some cool stuff coming for the DCU. It’s kind of wild to see them adjust their marketing based on what fans were saying.
DC Studios has switched the animal featured in its profile pictures on YouTube and Instagram. Previously, the images showed Eagly, the bird from *Peacemaker*, sporting sunglasses and headphones with the DC logo. Now, they’ve been updated to feature Krypto the Superdog from *Superman*. This change happened around August 20th, shortly after the first episode of *Peacemaker* Season 2 was released.
Following the conclusion of *Peacemaker* Season 2, DC Studios updated its social media branding. While their X (formerly Twitter) account still showcases the character Eagly, Instagram and YouTube now feature Krypto the Super-dog, who previously appeared in animated shorts on HBO Max.
Look, I loved *Peacemaker* Season 2, but the finale definitely seemed to divide people. It’s not the only reason, I’m sure, but the reaction to that last episode didn’t help things for DC Studios. I checked Rotten Tomatoes, and while the first seven episodes were all super well-received – at least 88% positive – the finale only scored a 57%. That’s a pretty big drop, and it’s hard to ignore when you’re looking at the overall success of the season.
The finale of *Peacemaker* Season 2 disappointed many viewers because it seemed more focused on building towards future DC projects than on finishing Peacemaker’s own story. The episode also felt hurried, especially regarding Rick Flag Sr.’s villainous plan and the fact that Peacemaker’s storyline didn’t have a satisfying conclusion.
Season 2 of *Peacemaker* continues John Cena’s story as Christopher Smith within the new DC Universe, and it’s the second series released as part of the reboot. Following a disastrous interview for a potential team-up, Smith spends the season figuring out who he is while stumbling into other dimensions that turn his life upside down. All eight episodes of *Peacemaker* Season 2 are now available to stream on HBO Max.
Where Does Peacemaker Go From Here in the DCU?
At the end of *Peacemaker* Season 2, John Cena’s character, Christopher Smith, finds himself stranded on a planet called Salvation. This sets the stage for a storyline taken directly from the DC Comics, where Salvation is a prison planet for captured supervillains. Now, fans are eager to see what happens to Peacemaker next.
The events of the *Peacemaker* finale will have ripple effects on upcoming shows like *Lanterns* and the second season of *Creature Commandos*, as well as influence the storyline for the 2027 film *Man of Tomorrow*. Specifically, we’ll see a dangerous alliance between Lex Luthor and Rick Flag Sr. as they pursue metahumans. The stories of Task Force M and the Green Lantern Corps will also become entangled in this hunt.
It’s unlikely we’ll see a full return of *Peacemaker* to the DC Universe until 2027 with the debut of *Man of Tomorrow*. However, a quick appearance in the 2025 *Superman* movie could improve his chances of being included. That *Superman* film is expected to be a major moment for the DCU, potentially bringing together various hero and villain groups as Superman and Lex Luthor team up.
Currently, it looks like John Cena’s time as Peacemaker is over following his character’s imprisonment. However, given his popularity and the character’s success within the DC Universe, he could still play a significant role as James Gunn continues to develop and expand the universe.
