The newest chapter of *Modulo* has sparked excitement among fans, who think it contains a hidden nod to another popular *Shonen Jump* series. The introduction of the character Dabura in *Modulo* Chapter 6 strongly resembles the Dabura seen in both *Dragon Ball Z* and the more recent *Dragon Ball Daima*.
The latest episode seems to have revealed the series’ main villain. Like the previous big bad, Ryomen Sukuna, this new enemy, named Dabura, appears incredibly powerful and frightening. Fans have noted that while Dabura’s design is reminiscent of Sukuna, his name and origins connect to the popular anime *Dragon Ball*. He shares a name with Dabura, a former Demon King from *Dragon Ball Z* and the upcoming series *Dragon Ball Daima*.
Dragon Ball’s Shocking Connection to Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 6
A clear connection between the two characters is their similar names. While it’s not yet known if *Modulo*’s creator, Gege Akutami, intentionally named the character as a reference, the Dabura from *Dragon Ball Z* fits the pattern of meaningful names Akira Toriyama created for the main villains in the Majin Buu Saga.
Both villains in these shonen series are beings from other worlds who threaten Earth. In *Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo*, Dabura is explicitly an alien. While the Dabura from *Dragon Ball* is designed after traditional demons, he’s more of an extraterrestrial being, as the Demon Realm is reached through space, not through supernatural means. The way *Daima* portrays Dabura and the creatures of the Demon Realm uses a power system similar to magic, but it feels connected to the series’ over-the-top fighting style.
Interestingly, the two characters named Dabura share some unexpected design similarities, even though they look quite different. As we’ve seen, the Dabura from *Jujutsu Kaisen* has a spine structure remarkably similar to Sukuna’s, leading some fans to theorize he might be a reincarnation of the ancient King of Curses. However, his goat horns are reminiscent of Dabura from *Dragon Ball Z*, who is portrayed as a classic devil figure.
The appearance of Dabura’s Third Eye in *Jujutsu Kaisen* feels like a direct reference to the storyline in *Dragon Ball Daima*, where Dabura attempted to take the eye from his father to become the unchallenged ruler of the Demon Realm, but ultimately failed. While *Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo* is still new, we don’t yet know what powers this version of the Third Eye will grant. However, it likely won’t have the same humorous reveal as the one in the final episode of *Dragon Ball Daima*.
I’ve noticed that *JJK Modulo* is being planned as a limited series, unlike the original *Jujutsu Kaisen*. It’s expected to run for about six months, though plans are always subject to change. Right now, it seems like *Modulo* is meant to be a shorter follow-up to Akutami’s incredibly popular work.
Good news for fans of *Jujutsu Kaisen*! A new movie will be released in the U.S. this December, featuring a compilation of the “Shibuya Incident Arc.” This movie serves as a lead-in to Season 3, which is scheduled for next year, and introduces the upcoming battle between Yuji Itadori and Yuta Okkotsu. The movie is titled *Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution* and will officially premiere in 2026.
You can watch the first two seasons of *Jujutsu Kaisen* on Crunchyroll. If you prefer to read the story, the original manga and *Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo* are available digitally through the Viz Media and Manga Plus apps.
