Avengers: Doomsday writer Michael Waldron knows who should play Nova in the MCU.
I’m really excited about the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie – I know one of the writers, Waldron, worked on the script! He’s been a part of some amazing Marvel projects already. I loved his work on Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and I even heard he contributed to Thor: Love and Thunder and the early stages of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, though his name wasn’t officially listed on those. It’s great to see him involved in something this big!
Who does Michael Waldron think should play Nova in the MCU?
After co-creating the Hulu series *Chad Powers* with Glen Powell, writer Christopher Waldron shared with The Playlist that he thinks Powell would be a great fit for the role of Richard Rider.
“He’d be a pretty good Nova,” Waldron commented.
It’s still uncertain when, or even if, Richard Rider (Nova) will appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A Nova TV show was in development, but Marvel reportedly put it on hold in February. While the project hasn’t been completely abandoned – there’s been some discussion of it becoming a movie instead – its future remains unclear.
Besides his role as Chad Powers, Powell is also starring as Ben Richards in Edgar Wright’s upcoming film, *The Running Man*. Based on the 1982 Stephen King novel, the movie is scheduled to hit US theaters on November 14, 2025.
Marvel Studios has announced release dates for several upcoming films. Avengers: Doomsday will hit theaters on December 18, 2026, and will be followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027. Before either of those, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled for release on July 31, 2026.
