It’s been over three years since Vecna unleashed the Upside Down in *Stranger Things*, and while some fans have lost interest during the wait, the new trailer for Season 5 has definitely reignited excitement. The final season is going to be emotional – I’m eager to see what happens after that cliffhanger ending, but I’m also sad to think about saying goodbye to these beloved characters. Apparently, the actors feel the same way, and hearing about Noah Schnapp’s last day on set with Winona Ryder already has me tearing up.
When *Stranger Things* debuted on Netflix in 2016, Noah Schnapp was only 11 years old. Because of this, he – along with many of the other actors – grew up playing these characters, and naturally formed close bonds, especially with his on-screen mother, Winona Ryder. Schnapp recently shared with Variety how emotional it was to finish filming Season 5, recalling the difficult goodbye.
I was at Winona’s going-away event, and I tried to be upbeat, telling her it wasn’t a permanent goodbye. But when I was alone with her, the reality of her leaving really hit me, and I just started crying and couldn’t let go. I hadn’t realized how much it would affect me.
It’s funny how emotional I’m getting over a show that hasn’t even finished! Noah Schnapp, who plays Will Byers in the popular Netflix series, had a tough start – his character spent most of the first season trapped in a dangerous alternate dimension while his mom, Joyce (Winona Ryder), desperately tried to save him.
It’s obvious that portraying a mother and son for so many years created a strong connection between the actors, and I’m hopeful Noah Schnapp is correct that they’ll remain friends.

The creators of *Stranger Things*, the Duffer brothers, cleverly scheduled filming for Season 5 so that each of the main actors finished shooting their last scene on the same day. This created a powerfully emotional atmosphere on set, as they were all able to witness each other’s final moments as their characters.
Joe Keery, who plays Steve Harrington, said the last day of filming was both moving and wonderful, and that he considers his fellow actors a lifelong family. Ross Duffer, one of the show’s creators, agreed, saying the cast and crew had all become like family.
Finn Wolfhard, known for playing Mike Wheeler on *Stranger Things*, described finishing the show as a bittersweet experience, comparing it to the emotional feeling of saying goodbye to childhood toys in *Toy Story 3*.
Get ready for a rollercoaster of feelings when *Stranger Things* season 5 arrives in 2025! The first part, with four episodes, will be available on November 26th. Then, three more episodes will be released on December 25th, and the final episode will conclude the series on December 31st. Make sure your Netflix is current – you definitely won’t want to miss the end of this show!
