It’s starting to feel like a real vampire is more likely than a *Blade* movie actually happening, considering how long it’s taking Marvel to get the project off the ground for Phase 6. Recent reports suggested Marvel executives weren’t prioritizing *Blade*, which was a big disappointment for fans hoping to see Mahershala Ali take on the role. However, there’s now some good news! There’s renewed hope that the film is still on track. (But let’s avoid direct sunlight just in case.)
Mia Goth, who starred in both *MaXXXine* and *Infinity Pool*, was originally cast in the upcoming *Blade* movie in April 2023. However, production was halted by the writers’ strike. While some details about her character were revealed in an older version of the script, little is currently known about her role. Goth recently told ELLE, while promoting Guillermo del Toro’s *Frankenstein*, that she remains involved with the project and understands the reasons for the delays.
It’s for the best that it’s taken the time that it has. They want to do it right.
If the project ever actually gets made – if Kevin Feige and Marvel decide to film it – then I’ll admit the long wait will have been worth it. But if it never happens, if nothing ever comes of it, I doubt all the anticipation will feel justified.
It’s good to see Mia Goth staying positive about the project and acting like it’s still a real possibility. It’s frustrating that even Mahershala Ali, who you’d expect to be kept in the loop, says he hasn’t heard anything about it.
It’s also possible Mia Goth isn’t just being optimistic, but rather repeating things she’s said before about this project that never came to fruition. Back in June 2024, she told Deadline:
I can tell they’re truly passionate and dedicated to making a fantastic film, and that’s a really positive feeling.
Even if she doesn’t appear in superhero films soon, Mia Goth is proving she’s more than just a scream queen by taking on diverse roles. Her upcoming movie *Frankenstein*, for example, is being described as an emotional drama rather than a horror film. She’s also joined the *Star Wars* universe with Ryan Gosling’s *Starfighter*, which is expected to significantly boost her career. This also keeps her connected to Disney, the company that owns Marvel, should the *Blade* movie ever move forward.
The movie’s future is currently uncertain. Delroy Lindo discussed this earlier in 2025, four years after originally being cast. He explained to Collider that while the project initially progressed well, it soon encountered problems – including changes in directors – that derailed its development.
With Ben Goth’s rising popularity, it might not be long before he’s cast in a Marvel Cinematic Universe movie. Hopefully, those in charge understand the importance of securing his involvement and work quickly to make it happen.
